Claims
- 1. A compound having the general formula
- {RE(dpa).sub.3 }.sup.3- Cat.sub.3.sup.+ ( 5)
- where RE is a rare earth ion, dpa stands for 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid, and Cat is a cation.
- 2. A compound having the general formula
- RE(.beta.-diketone).sub.3.cryptate
- where RE is a rare earth ion, and .beta.-diketone is a ligand in accordance with the formula ##STR4## where X and Y may be the same or different and each represents either (i) an aromatic hydrocarbon group, in particular a benzene group, or (ii) an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, in particular an alkyl group having 1-10 C atoms which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms; and Z represents any of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having 1-10 C atoms which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms, or a nitrogroup.
