Claims
- 1. An optical code reader comprising:
- a reading window;
- a reading device arranged to read an image of a 2-dimensional code via said reading window in a state where said reading window is set within a preset distance from the 2-dimensional code, and to convert the read image into image data;
- a guide light source for applying a guide beam light indicating the center of a reading range of the reading device to guide the 2-dimensional code within the reading range of the reading device, wherein said guide beam light is applied except for a period of time during which the image of the 2-dimensional code is read by said reading device; and
- a portable frame having an opening used as said reading window, for accommodating said reading device and guide light source; and
- wherein said reading device includes:
- an illumination light source which applies an illumination light via said reading window;
- an image sensor arranged to sense an image of the 2-dimensional code based on a reflected light obtained when the 2-dimensional code is illuminated by said illumination light source;
- a trigger switch operated in a state where said reading window is set within a preset distance from the 2-dimensional code;
- an illumination light source controller which turns on said illumination light source upon operation of said trigger switch; and a guide light source controller which turns on said guide light source before turn-on of said illumination light source and turns off said guide light source after turn-on of said illumination light source.
- 2. An optical code reader according to claim 1, wherein said guide light source controller comprises:
- a driver which supplies a drive current to said guide light source to turn on said guide light source; and
- a flashing controller which intermittently permits supply of the drive current supplied from said driver to said guide light source.
- 3. An optical code reader according to claim 1, wherein said guide light source controller includes a delay device for delaying the turn-off of said guide light source until said image sensor is set ready for correctly sensing the image after said illumination light source is turned on.
- 4. An optical code reader according to claim 1, wherein said reading device includes:
- a monitor which monitors an output signal of said image sensor; and
- a guide light source driver which turns on said guide light source when an output signal of said image sensor is detected by said monitor and turns off said guide light source when an output signal of said image sensor is not detected by said monitor.
- 5. An optical code reader according to claim 1, wherein said guide light source includes a plurality of light emitting elements for emitting guide beam lights which intersect one another in a position at a preset distance along a central axis which passes the center of a plane of said reading window at right angles.
- 6. An optical code reader according to claim 1, wherein said reading device includes an analyzing unit which analyzes the image data to decode the 2-dimensional code.
- 7. An optical code reader comprising:
- reading window;
- a reading device which reads an image of a 2-dimensional code via said reading window in a state where said reading window is not within a preset distance from the 2-dimensional code, and which converts the read image into image data;
- an illumination light source for applying an illumination light to said 2-dimensional code via said reading window;
- a guide light source for applying a guide light which indicates a reading range of said reading device to guide the 2-dimensional code within the reading range of said reading device;
- a light source controller which: (i) turns on said guide light source before turn-on of said illumination light source, and (ii) turns off said guide light source only after turn-on of said illumination light source so as to extinguish the guide light while the illumination light source remains on, such that both said guide light source and said illumination light source are simultaneously on for a period of time; and
- a portable frame having an opening used as said reading window, for accommodating said reading device, said illumination light source, said guide light source, and said light source controller.
- 8. An optical code reader according to claim 7, wherein said light source controller includes:
- a trigger switch operated in a state where said reading window in not within said preset distance from the 2-dimensional code; and
- an illumination light source controller which turns on said illumination light source upon operation of said trigger switch.
- 9. An optical code reader according to claim 7, wherein said reading device includes an analyzing unit which analyzes the image data and decodes the 2-dimensional code based on the analyzed image data.
- 10. An optical code reader according to claim 7, wherein the reading range of said reading device has a central axis, and wherein said central axis passes the center of a plane of said reading window at right angles.
- 11. An optical code reading method for reading a 2-dimensional code using a reading device, the method comprising the steps of:
- applying a guide light which indicates a reading range of the reading device to guide the 2-dimensional code within the reading range of the reading device;
- setting a reading window of the reading device within a preset distance from the 2-dimensional code, using said guide light;
- applying an illumination light to said 2-dimensional code in a state where said reading window is set within said preset distance from the 2-dimensional code; and
- sensing an image of the 2-dimensional code based on a reflected light obtained via said reading window when the 2-dimensional code is illuminated by said illumination light to convert the sensed image into image data;
- said guide light applying step including:
- applying said guide light to said 2-dimensional code before illuminating said 2-dimensional code with the illumination light, and
- stopping said applying of said guide light only after said illumination of said 2-dimensional code with said illumination light, such that said 2-dimensional code is simultaneously illuminated by both said guide light and said illumination light for a period of time, said guide light being not applied during the sensing step.
- 12. An optical code reading method according to claim 11, wherein said illumination light applying step includes turning on the illumination light upon operation of a trigger switch which is operated in a state where said reading window is set within said preset distance from the 2-dimensional code.
- 13. An optical code reading method according to claim 11, further comprising the step of analyzing the sensed image data and decoding the analyzed sensed image data.
