Claims
- 1. An optical disc comprising:a data area storing a video object which includes a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture; a program chain area storing, in correspondence to a reproduction order, a plurality of pieces of cell information which each includes a start time and an end time of a reproduction section in the video object to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell; and a time map area storing a first table and a second table, wherein the first table includes, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time, and the second table includes, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit.
- 2. A recording apparatus comprising:an input means operable to receive video data to be recorded on an optical disc; a compression means operable to compress the received video data to generate a video object which includes a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture; a write means operable to write the compressed video data onto the optical disc; and a controller operable to: control the write means to write the generated video object onto a data area of the optical disc; generate a first table which includes, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time; generate a second table which includes, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit; control the write means to write the first table and the second table onto a time map area of the optical disc; to generate a plurality of pieces of cell information which each includes a start time and an end time of a reproduction section to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell; and control the write means to write, in correspondence to a reproduction order, the plurality of pieces of cell information onto a program chain area of the optical disc.
- 3. A recording method for recording onto an optical disc a video object which includes a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture, the recording method comprising:writing the video object onto a data area of the optical disc; generating a first table which includes, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time; generating the second table which includes, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit; writing the first table and the second table onto a time map area of the optical disc; generating a plurality of pieces of cell information which each includes a start time and an end time of a reproduction section to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell; and writing, in correspondence to a reproduction order, the plurality of pieces of cell information onto a program chain area of the optical disc.
- 4. A reproduction apparatus for reproducing a video object stored on an optical disc which further stores a first table, a second table, a plurality pieces of cell information stored in correspondence to a reproduction order, the video object including a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture, the first table including, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time, the second table including, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit, each the plurality pieces of cell information including a start time and an end time of a reproduction section to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell, the reproduction apparatus comprising:a reading means operable to read the vide object from the optical disc; a reproduction means operable to reproduce the read video object; and a controller operable to control the reading means and the reproduction means, wherein the controller receives an instruction to reproduce the video object in accordance with an arrangement of the plurality pieces of cell information; controls the reading means to read the first table, the second tables, and the plurality pieces of cell information, identifies, for each of the plurality pieces of cell information, a video object unit including a picture which corresponds to the start time and the end time included in said cell information by referring to the read first and second table, and controls the reading means and the reproduction means to perform a reproduction in the reproduction order based on the plurality pieces of cell information.
- 5. A reproduction method for reproducing a video object stored on an optical disc which further stores a first table, a second table and a plurality pieces of cell information stored in correspondence to a reproduction order, the video object including a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture, the first table including, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time, the second table including, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit, each of the plurality pieces of cell information including a start time and an end time of a reproduction section to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell, the reproduction method comprising:receiving an instruction to reproduce the video object in accordance with an arrangement of the plurality pieces of cell information; reading the first table, the second table, and the plurality pieces of cell information, identifying, for each of the plurality pieces of cell information, a video object unit including a picture which corresponds to the start time and the end time included in said cell information by referring to the read first and second table, and controlling the reading means and the reproduction means to perform a reproduction in the reproduction order based on the plurality pieces of cell information.
- 6. A computer-readable recording medium storing a program for use in a recording apparatus for recording onto an optical disc a video object which includes a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture, the program allowing a computer to execute the steps of:writing the video object onto a data area of the optical disc; generating a first table which includes, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time; generating the second table which includes, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit; writing the first table and the second table onto a time map area of the optical disc; generating a plurality of pieces of cell information which each includes a start time and an end time of a reproduction section to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell; and writing the plurality of pieces of cell information in correspondence to a reproduction order of the corresponding cells onto a program chain area of the optical disc.
- 7. A computer-readable recording medium storing a program for use in a reproduction apparatus which reproduces a video object recorded on an optical disc which further stores a first table, a second table and a plurality pieces of cell information stored in correspondence to a reproduction order, the video object including a plurality of video object units which each include at least one picture, the first table including, for each of reproduction times determined at a constant time interval, identification information and an address on the optical disc of a video object unit including a picture to be reproduced at said reproduction time, the second table including, for each of the plurality of video object units, a reproduction time period and a data size of said video object unit, each of the plurality pieces of cell information including a start time and an end time of a reproduction section to specify the reproduction section as a corresponding cell, the program allowing a computer to execute the steps of:receiving an instruction to reproduce the video object in accordance with an arrangement of the plurality pieces of cell information; reading the first table, the second table, and the plurality pieces of cell information, identifying, for each of the plurality pieces of cell information, a video object unit including a picture which corresponds to the start time and the end time included in said cell information by referring to the read first and second table, and controlling the reading means and the reproduction means to perform a reproduction in the reproduction order based on the plurality pieces of cell information.
