Claims
- 1. A method of determining a recording power for recording data by a laser onto a recording medium comprising the steps of:
- recording data onto the predetermined part of the recording medium while varying the recording power according to a first range;
- receiving light reflected from the predetermined portion of the recording medium; and
- analyzing the reflected light to determine if a certain recording power has been obtained;
- wherein if the certain recording power has not been obtained, repeating the steps of recording, receiving and analyzing, and wherein the step of recording is repeated by varying the recording power according to a second range different from the first range, the second range overlaps the first range when an outcome of the step of analyzing the reflected light while varying the recording power according to the first range indicates that a deviation signal of the recording condition exceeds a predetermined threshold value;
- and wherein if the certain recording power has been obtained, setting the certain recording power as the recording power to be used for further recording.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the certain recording power is determined each time a new recording medium is employed to prevent damaging of the recording medium.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the certain recording power is determined periodically for the recording medium to prevent damaging of the recording medium.
- 4. An optical disk device that determines a recording power for recording data by a laser onto a recording medium, comprising:
- a recording processing system including a recording pulse generating circuit that records data onto a predetermined portion of the recording medium while varying the recording power according to a first range;
- a retrieving processing system that includes an optical detector that receives light reflected from the recording medium; and
- a controller coupled to said recording processing system and said retrieving processing system that analyzes the reflected light to determine if a certain recording power has been obtained,
- wherein if said controller determines that the certain recording power has not been obtained, said recording processing system records data while varying the recording power according to a second range different from the first range, which second range is determined to overlap the first range when a deviation signal of the recording condition exceeds a predetermined threshold value according to the first range, and
- wherein said controller, if the certain recording power has been obtained, sets the certain recording power as the recording power to be used for recording by said recording processing system.
- 5. The optical disk device according to claim 4, wherein the certain recording power is determined by performing three or more times of varying the recording power ranges.
- 6. The optical disk device according to claim 4, wherein a first range of the recording powers covers a lowest power, and a second range of the recording powers have a higher maximum power than the first range of the recording powers have.
- 7. An optical disk device that determines a recording power for recording data by a laser onto a recording medium, comprising:
- a recording processing system including a recording pulse generating circuit that records data onto a predetermined portion of the recording medium while varying a laser power according to a first range;
- a retrieving processing system that includes an optical detector that receives light reflected from the recording medium; and
- a controller coupled to said recording processing system and said retrieving processing system that analyzes the reflected light to determine if a certain recording power has been obtained,
- wherein if said controller determines that the certain laser power has not been obtained, said recording processing system records data while varying the laser power according to a second range different from the first range, which second range is determined to overlap the first range when a deviation signal of the recording condition exceeds a predetermined threshold value according to the first range, and
- wherein said controller, if the certain laser power has been obtained, sets the certain laser power as the laser power to be used for recording by said recording processing system.
- 8. The optical disk device according to claim 7, wherein the certain laser power is determined by performing three or more times of varying the laser power ranges.
- 9. The optical disk device according to claim 7, wherein a first range of the laser powers covers a lowest power, and a second range of the laser powers have a higher maximum power than the first range of the laser powers have.
- 10. A method of determining a recording power for recording data by a laser onto a recording medium comprising the steps of:
- recording data onto a predetermined portion of the recording medium while varying a laser power according to a first range;
- receiving light reflected from the predetermined portion of the recording medium; and
- analyzing the reflected light to determine if a certain laser power has been obtained;
- wherein if the certain laser power has not been obtained, repeating the steps of recording, receiving and analyzing, and wherein the step of recording is repeated by varying the laser power according to a second range different from the first range, the second range overlaps the first range when an outcome of the step of analyzing the reflected light while varying the laser power according to the first range indicates that a deviation signal of the recording condition exceeds a predetermined threshold value;
- and wherein if the certain laser power has been obtained, setting the certain laser power as the laser power to be used for further recording.
- 11. The method according to claim 10, wherein the certain laser power is determined each time a new recording medium is employed.
- 12. The method according to claim 10, wherein the certain laser power is determined periodically for the recording medium.
