Claims
- 1. A radiation-curable ink base composition comprising, in the uncured state, at least one monomer or oligomer having a radiation-curable functional group, a photoinitiator for said monomer or oligomer present in an amount sufficient to effect radiation cure of said monomer or oligomer, and a secondary amino or tertiary amino silicone-containing additive.
- 2. The ink base composition of claim 1 wherein said silicone-containing additive is a compound including the structure:
- 3. The ink base composition of claim 1 or 2 wherein said silicone-containing additive is selected from the group consisting of a secondary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane, a tertiary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane, or mixtures thereof.
- 4. The ink base composition of claim 3, wherein said silicone additive is a secondary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane.
- 5. The ink base composition of claim 3, wherein said silicone additive is a tertiary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane.
- 6. The ink base composition of claim 1 or 2, further including a coloring agent.
- 7. The ink base composition of claim 6 wherein said coloring agent is a dye.
- 8. The ink base composition of claim 6 wherein said coloring agent is a pigment.
- 9. A radiation-curable fiber optic coating composition for a member selected from the group consisting of an outer primary coating, a secondary coating, buffering materials, or matrix materials which comprises, in the uncured state, at least one monomer or oligomer having a radiation-curable functional group, a photoinitiator for said monomer or oligomer present in an amount sufficient to effect radiation cure of said monomer or oligomer, and a secondary amino or tertiary amino silicone-containing additive.
- 10. The coating composition of claim 9, wherein said silicone-containing additive is a compound including the structure:
- 11. The coating composition of claim 9 or 10, further including a coloring agent.
- 12. The coating composition of claim 11, wherein said coloring agent is a dye.
- 13. The coating composition of claim 11, wherein said coloring agent is a pigment.
- 14. An optical fiber coated with the ink composition of claim 6.
- 15. An optical fiber coated with the ink composition of claim 7.
- 16. An optical fiber coated with the ink composition of claim 8.
- 17. An optical fiber coated with the coating composition of claim 9.
- 18. An optical fiber coated with the coating composition of claim 10.
- 19. An optical fiber coated with the coating composition of claim 11.
- 20. A coated optical fiber ribbon assembly comprising at least two coated optical fibers wherein at least one of said coated optical fibers includes a coloring layer as the outermost layer, said fibers being coated with matrix material, and said coloring layer, in the uncured state, includes a secondary amino or tertiary amino silicone-containing additive.
- 21. The ink base composition of claim 20, wherein said silicone-containing additive is a compound including the structure:
- 22. The composition of claim 20 or 21, wherein said silicone-containing additive is selected from the group consisting of a secondary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane, a tertiary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane or mixtures thereof.
- 23. The coated optical fiber ribbon assembly of claim 20 or 21, wherein said ribbon matrix material, in the uncured state, includes a silicone-containing additive selected from the group consisting of a secondary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane, a tertiary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane or mixtures thereof.
- 24. A radiation-curable ink base composition comprising, in the uncured state, at least one monomer or oligomer having a radiation-curable functional group, a photoinitiator for said monomer or oligomer present in an amount sufficient to effect radiation cure of said monomer or oligomer, and a silicone-containing additive comprising the reaction product of a secondary amino-functional polydi-substituted siloxane and an ethylenically unsaturated compound.
- 25. The radiation-curable ink base composition of claim 24 wherein said ethylenically unsaturated compound includes only one double bond, such that the reaction product of said secondary aminofunctional polydi-substituted siloxane and said ethylenically unsaturated compound is substantially free of ethylenic unsaturation.
- 26. The composition of claim 24 or 25, wherein said ethylenically unsaturated compound is selected from the group consisting of an acrylate or methacrylate.
- 27. The composition of claim 26 wherein said silicone-containing additive is a secondary amino-functional polydimethylsiloxane.
