Claims
- 1. An optical fiber splice case comprising:
- first and second longitudinally spaced apart end members;
- a rigid bar member having opposite terminal ends coined to the first and second end members to hold them in their longitudinally spaced apart relationship;
- an elongated housing of generally cylindrical configuration adapted to engage the first and second end members, the housing including at least one base component and at least one cover component; and,
- a plurality of elements extending from an exterior surface of the at least one base component to define supports to permit the at least one base component to rest stably on a flat work surface.
- 2. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 1 wherein said plurality of elements comprise reinforcing ribs extending radially from said at least one base component.
- 3. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 2 wherein:
- said at least one base component is of a generally semi-cylindrical configuration; and,
- said reinforcing ribs extend in a circumferential direction.
- 4. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 3 wherein:
- said reinforcing ribs are spaced longitudinally along said at least one base component; and,
- reinforcing ribs adjacent to opposite ends of the at least one base component have a flat outer periphery to define said supports.
- 5. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 2 wherein at least some of said reinforcing ribs have a flat outer periphery that define said supports.
- 6. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 1 wherein said plurality of elements comprise radially extending reinforcing ribs disposed on opposite ends of said at least one base component.
- 7. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 6 further comprising a plurality of second elements extending from the exterior of the at least one cover component to define second supports to permit the at least one cover component to rest stably on a flat work surface.
- 8. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 7 wherein said plurality of second elements comprise radially extending reinforcing ribs disposed on opposite ends of said at least one cover component.
- 9. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 1 further comprising a plurality of second elements extending from an exterior surface of the at least one cover component to define second supports to permit the at least one cover component to rest stably on a flat work surface.
- 10. An optical fiber splice case comprising:
- first and second longitudinally spaced apart end members;
- a rigid bar member having opposite terminal ends joined to the first and second end members to hold them in their longitudinally spaced apart relationship;
- an elongated generally cylindrical housing adapted to engage the first and second end members;
- a plurality of radially extending reinforcing ribs spaced longitudinally on the housing; and,
- at least some of said plurality of radially extending ribs being provided with a planar outer surface to define support surfaces such that the housing can rest stably on a planar work surface.
- 11. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 10 wherein:
- said at least some of said plurality of radially extending ribs on a first longitudinal end of the housing are provided with a first planar outer surface; and,
- said at least some of said plurality of radially extending ribs on a second longitudinal end of the housing are provided with a second planar outer surface.
- 12. The optical fiber splice case according to claim 11 wherein:
- said first planar outer surface provided by the radially extending ribs on the first longitudinal end of the housing is cooperative with said second planar outer surface provided by the radially extending ribs on the second longitudinal end of the housing so that the housing can rest stably on an operatively associated planar work surface.
- 13. A housing assembly for housing and storing cable splices comprising:
- first and second longitudinally spaced apart end members;
- a rigid bar member having opposite terminal ends joined to the first and second end members to hold them in their longitudinally spaced apart relationship;
- at least one optical cable splice tray on the rigid bar member;
- a set of housing members releasably clamped to the first and second end members to sealingly enclose the at least one optical cable splice tray; and,
- rest members disposed on the set of housing members and having a substantially planar surface adapting the housing assembly to rest stably on an operatively associated planar work surface.
- 14. The housing assembly according to claim 13 wherein the set of housing members extend around the first and second end members and are connected to each other, by releasable fasteners.
- 15. The housing assembly according to claim 14 wherein the set of housing members include at least one semi-cylindrical shell member.
- 16. The housing assembly according to claim 14 wherein said planar rest members comprise reinforcing ribs extending radially from said at least one semi-cylindrical shell member.
- 17. The housing assembly according to claim 16 wherein said planar rest members are disposed on opposite ends of said at least one semi-cylindrical shell member.
- 18. The housing assembly according to claim 13 wherein the set of housing members comprise a pair of semi-cylindrical shell members extending around the first and second end members and being connected to each other by releasable fasteners.
- 19. The housing assembly according to claim 18 wherein said planar rest members comprise reinforcing ribs extending radially from a first one of said pair of semi-cylindrical shell members.
- 20. The housing assembly according to claim 19 wherein said planar rest members are disposed on opposite ends of said first one of said pair of semi-cylindrical shell members.
- 21. A housing assembly for housing and storing cable splices comprising:
- at least one end member;
- a set of housing members releasably clamped to the at least one end member to define a sealed chamber;
- at least one optical cable splice tray supported within the sealed chamber; and,
- rest members disposed on the set of housing members and having a substantially planar surface adapting the housing assembly to rest stably on an operatively associated planar work surface.
- 22. The housing assembly according to claim 21 wherein:
- said at least one end member includes first and second longitudinally spaced apart end members; and,
- said set of housing members are adapted to releasably clamp to the first and second end members.
- 23. The housing assembly according to claim 22 further comprising a rigid bar member having opposite terminal ends joined to the first and second end members to hold them in their longitudinally spaced apart relationship.
- 24. The housing assembly according to claim 23 wherein:
- the set of housing members comprise a pair of semi-cylindrical shell members extending around the first and second end members and are connected to each other by releasable fasteners; and,
- the rest members comprise reinforcing ribs extending radially from at least a first one of said pair of semi-cylindrical shell members.
- 25. The housing assembly according to claim 24 wherein said rest members are disposed on opposite ends of said at least a first one of said pair of semi-cylindrical shell members.
