Claims
- 1. An optical head, comprising:an optical portion which receives and focuses incoming optical radiation, said optical portion having a bottom surface adapted to face an optical disk, wherein said optical portion includes: a slider body; a void formed in said slider body; a solid immersion lens having a processed flat portion and a spherical portion, and positioned in said void to place said processed flat portion coplanar with said bottom surface; a mesa optically coupled to a portion of said processed flat portion of said solid immersion lens, the coil being wound around said mesa; and a magnetic coil wound on said bottom surface to have a plurality of turns that have different effective perimeters, said magnetic coil having a varying property for said different turns to render each of said different turns substantially of the same resistance.
- 2. The optical head of claim 1, further comprising an insulation layer configured to contact said mesa.
- 3. The optical head of claim 1, further comprising a pre-formed structure to secure sides of said solid immersion lens to side walls of said void.
- 4. The optical head of claim 3, wherein said pre-formed structure is formed from one of an opaque, transparent, and colored glass material.
- 5. The optical head of claim 1, further comprising a glue bond to secure sides of said solid immersion lens to side walls of said void.
- 6. The optical head of claim 1, wherein said slider body is formed from a material different from a material of said solid immersion lens.
- 7. The optical head of claim 1, wherein said slider body is formed from the same material as a material of said solid immersion lens.
- 8. The optical head of claim 1, wherein said slider body is formed from a ceramic material or glass.
- 9. The optical head of claim 1, wherein said solid immersion lens is formed from one of cubic zirconia, titanium oxide, beta-silicon carbide, and gallium phosphide.
- 10. The optical head of claim 1, wherein the slider body is formed from one of aluminum oxide, calcium titanate, magnesium titanate, silicon, carbide, silicon carbide, and alumina-titanium-carbide.
- 11. The optical head of claim 1, wherein said coil is one of rectangular, elliptical, circular, and square.
- 12. The optical head of claim 1, wherein said coil is a planar coil.
- 13. An optical head, comprising:an optical portion which receives and focuses incoming optical radiation, said optical portion having a bottom surface adapted to face an optical disk, wherein said optical portion includes: a slider body; a void formed in said slider body; a solid immersion lens having a processed flat portion and a spherical portion and positioned in said void to place said processed flat portion coplanar with said bottom surface; a mesa optically coupled to a portion of said processed flat portion of said solid immersion lens, the coil being wound around said mesa; and a magnetic coil wound on said bottom surface to have a plurality of turns that have different effective perimeters, said magnetic coil having a varying property for said different turns to render each of said different turns substantially of the same temperature.
- 14. The optical head of claim 13, further comprising an insulation layer configured to contact said mesa.
- 15. The optical head of claim 13, further comprising a pre-formed structure to secure sides of said solid immersion lens to side walls of said void.
- 16. The optical head of claim 15, wherein said pre-formed structure is formed from one of an opaque, transparent, and colored glass material.
- 17. The optical head of claim 13, further comprising a glue bond to secure sides of said solid immersion lens to side walls of said void.
- 18. The optical head of claim 13, wherein said coil is one of rectangular, elliptical, circular, and square.
- 19. The optical head of claim 13, wherein said slider body is formed from a material different from a material of said solid immersion lens.
- 20. The optical head of claim 13, wherein said slider body is formed from the same material as a material of said lens.
- 21. The optical head of claim 13, wherein said slider body is formed from a ceramic material or glass.
- 22. The optical head of claim 13, wherein said solid immersion lens is formed from one of cubic zirconia, titanium oxide, beta-silicon carbide, and gallium phosphide.
- 23. The optical head of claim 13, wherein the slider body is formed from one of aluminum oxide, calcium titanate, magnesium titanate, silicon, carbide, silicon carbide, and alumina-titanium-carbide.
- 24. The optical head of claim 13, wherein said coil is a planar coil.
- 25. An optical head, comprising:a slider body shaped to have a first surface and a second, opposing surface, and a through hole to produce a void from said first surface to said second surface; a solid immersion lens having a flat portion and a spherical portion opposing said flat portion, said solid immersion lens positioned in said void by engaging to side walls of said through hole to place said flat portion substantially coplanar with said second surface and said spherical portion facing said first surface; an optically transparent mesa coupled to a portion of said flat portion of said solid immersion lens and operable in combination with said solid immersion lens to provide optical coupling to and from an optical disk that is disposed to face said second surface; and a magnetic coil wound on said second surface to have a plurality of turns of different perimeters surrounding said mesa and designed to have a varying cross section for different turns so that resistance values of different turns or temperatures of different turns caused by electric current-induced heating are substantially equal for different turns.
- 26. The optical head as in claim 25, wherein said slider body is formed from a material different from a material of said solid immersion lens.
- 27. The optical head as in claim 25, wherein said slider body is formed from the same material as a material of said solid immersion lens.
- 28. The optical head as in claim 25, wherein said solid immersion lens is formed from one of cubic zirconia, titanium oxide, beta-silicon carbide, and gallium phosphide.
- 29. The optical head as in claim 25, wherein the slider body is formed from one of a ceramic material, a glass, aluminum oxide, calcium titanate, magnesium titanate, silicon, carbide, silicon carbide, and alumina-titanium-carbide.
