Claims
- 1. An optical modulation device, comprising:an electrooptical device including a first light-transmissive substrate disposed on a light-incident side, a second light-transmissive substrate disposed on a light-emitting side, a sealing material that adheres first surfaces of said first and second light-transmissive substrates with a space there between, an electrooptical substance interposed between said first surfaces of said first and second light-transmissive substrates, and a driving circuit disposed at a peripheral edge of the first surface of said second light-transmissive substrate, and wherein said first and second light-transmissive substrates have second surfaces opposite to said first surface; a holding member that holds said electrooptical device and has a cover portion that covers the peripheral edge of the second surface of said first light-transmissive substrate; a first light-shielding portion formed on said first surface of said first light-transmissive substrate, and a relationship between Wp and W1 is expressed by an equation: Wp<W1Wp being the distance from an end of said first light-transmissive substrate to an inner peripheral edge of said cover portion in said holding member, and W1 being the distance from the end of said first light-transmissive substrate to an inner peripheral edge of said first light-shielding portion, and the first light-shielding portion not overlapping the sealing material.
- 2. A projector comprising:a light source; an optical modulation device according to claim 1; and a projection lens for projecting light modulated by said optical modulation device.
- 3. A projector comprising:a light source; an optical modulation device, comprising: an electrooptical device including a first light-transmissive substrate disposed on a light-incident side, a second light-transmissive substrate disposed on a light-emitting side, a sealing material that adheres a first surface of said first and second light-transmissive substrates with a space there between, an electrooptical substance interposed between said first surface of said first and second light-transmissive substrates; and a driving circuit disposed at a peripheral edge of the first surface of said second light-transmissive substrate, and wherein said first and second light-transmissive substrates have a second surface opposite to said first surface; a holding member that holds said electrooptical device and has a cover portion that covers the peripheral edge of the second surface of said first light-transmissive substrate, the cover portion placed between the light source and the second surface of said first light-transmissive substrate; a first light-shielding portion formed on said first surface of said first light-transmissive substrate, and a relationship between Wp and W1 is expressed by an equation: Wp<W1Wp being the distance from an end of said first light-transmissive substrate to an inner peripheral edge of said cover portion in said holding member, and W1 being the distance from the end of said first light-transmissive substrate to an inner peripheral edge of said first light-shielding portion; and a projection lens for projecting light modulated by said optical modulation device.
