Claims
- 1. An optical pickup apparatus comprising:
- light projection means for projecting a light beam generated by a light source onto a recording medium;
- light separation means for separating a light beam reflected by the recording medium into first and second light beams;
- light converging means for respectively converging the first and second light beams;
- a first detector and a second detector, formed on a common substrate, for detecting the first and second light beams, respectively, and for producing detection outputs, a light receiving portion of each of said first and second detectors being divided into a plurality of areas for respectively detecting an area of a spot of light produced by the first and second light beams, wherein one of said first and second light receiving portions is located before a focusing position of one of the first and second light beams and the other light receiving portion is located after a focusing position of the other light beam; and
- processing means for obtaining a focusing error signal on the basis of the outputs of said first and second detectors.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the first and second light beams separated by said light separation means are different with respect to each other in their light polarization state.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said processing means obtains an information signal on the basis of outputs of said first and second light receiving portions.
- 4. A light pickup apparatus comprising:
- light projection means for projecting a light beam generated by a light source onto a recording medium;
- means for separating a light beam reflected by the recording medium into first and second light beams, and for respectively converging the first and second light beams;
- a first detector and a second detector, formed on a common substrate, for detecting the first and second light beams, respectively, a light receiving portion of each of said first and second detectors being divided into a plurality of areas for respectively detecting an area of a spot of light produced by the first and second light beams, wherein one of the first and second light beams is focused before the light beam reaches one of the first and second light receiving portions and the other light beam reaches the other light receiving portion after being focused; and
- means for obtaining a focusing error signal on the basis of the outputs of said first and second detectors.
- 5. An optical pickup apparatus comprising:
- a light irradiation optical system for irradiating a recording medium with a light beam generated by a light source;
- light separation means for separating a light beam reflected by the recording medium into first and second light beams;
- light converging means for respectively converging the first and second light beams;
- a first detector provided before a focusing position of the first light beam;
- a second detector provided after a focusing position of the second light beam, said second detector being formed on a substrate on which the first detector is formed; and
- detecting means for detecting a focusing error signal of said light irradiation optical system from outputs of said first and second detectors.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said first and second detectors respectively have light receiving portions each of which is divided into a plurality of regions.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein a polarization state of the first light beam is different from that of the second light beam.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said detecting means further detects an information signal of the recording medium on the basis of the outputs of said first and second detectors.
- 9. An optical pickup apparatus comprising:
- a light irradiation optical system for irradiating a recording medium with a light beam generated by a light source;
- a light converging optical system for separating a light beam reflected by the recording medium into first and second light beams and for respectively converging the first and second light beams;
- a first detector provided before a focusing position of the first light beam;
- a second detector provided after a focusing position of the second light beam, said second detector being formed on a substrate on which the first detector is formed; and
- detecting means for detecting a focusing error signal of said light irradiation optical system from outputs of said first and second detectors.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 9, wherein said first and second detectors respectively have light receiving portions each of which is divided into a plurality of regions.
- 11. An apparatus according to claim 9, wherein a polarization state of the first light beam is different from that of the second light beam.
- 12. An apparatus according to claim 9, wherein said detecting means further detects an information signal of the recording medium on the basis of the outputs of said first and second detectors.
