Claims
- 1. An optical reader comprising:
a housing; an imaging module disposed in said housing, said imaging module including:
a printed circuit board carrying an image sensor; an image sensor in electrical communication with said printed circuit board; a lens assembly retainer having at least one peripheral wall disposed forward of said image sensor; a lens assembly disposed in said lens assembly retainer, for imaging target indicia onto said image sensor; and said lens retainer including an adhesive receiving aperture formed in said at least one peripheral wall, defining an interface between said retainer and said lens assembly.
- 2. The reader of claim 1, wherein said image sensor includes a 2D image sensor.
- 3. The reader of claim 1, wherein said module includes an illumination assembly and an aiming illumination system.
- 4. The reader of claim 1, wherein said lens assembly is a lens barrel.
- 5. The reader of claim 1, wherein said lens assembly is a lens barrel and wherein said lens retainer is cylindrical shaped, and wherein said aperture is an elongated aperture formed substantially coextensively with an axis of said retainer.
- 6. The reader of claim 1, wherein said lens retainer and said lens assembly comprise key surfaces for radially aligning said lens assembly in said lens retainer.
- 7. The reader of claim 6, wherein said key surfaces are substantially flattened planer surfaces.
- 8. The reader of claim 1, wherein said retainer is included in a support assembly which further includes a containment section containing an image sensor.
- 9. The reader of claim 1, wherein said lens retainer further comprises a pin receiving aperture for receiving a pin for use in adjusting a position of said lens assembly within said retainer.
- 10. The reader of claim 9, wherein said lens assembly comprises a pin-receiving notch for receiving said pin.
- 11. The reader of claim 1, wherein adhesive material is applied at both of said pin receiving aperture and said adhesive receiving aperture for securing said lens assembly bin a fixed position in said retainer.
- 12. The reader of claim 1, wherein said lens assembly includes an adhesive receiving surface formed at least partially about a periphery of said lens assembly, said notch adapted to receive adhesive material input into said system through said adhesive receiving aperture.
- 13. The reader of claim 12, wherein said adhesive-receiving surface is a notch.
- 14. The reader of claim 12, wherein said adhesive-receiving surface is a planar surface.
- 15. The reader of claim 12, wherein said adhesive-receiving surface is a concave surface.
- 16. The reader of claim 1, wherein said lens assembly comprises a single element lens.
- 17. An optical reader imaging module comprising:
an image sensor; an imaging lens system for imaging target indicia onto said image sensor, said imaging system comprising:
a lens retainer; a lens assembly received in said lens retainer; an adhesive receiving aperture formed in said lens retainer, defining an interface between said lens retainer and said lens assembly.
- 18. The module of claim 17, wherein said lens assembly includes a lens barrel.
- 19. The module of claim 17, wherein said lens assembly is a lens barrel and wherein said lens retainer is cylindrical shaped, and wherein said aperture is an elongate aperture formed substantially coextensively with an axis of said retainer.
- 20. The module of claim 17, wherein said lens retainer and said lens barrel comprise key surfaces for radially aligning said lens assembly in said lens retainer.
- 21. The module of claim 20, wherein said key surfaces are substantially flattened planer surfaces.
- 22. The module of claim 17, wherein said retainer is included in a support assembly which further includes a containment section containing an image sensor.
- 23. The module of claim 17, wherein said lens retainer further comprises a pin receiving aperture for receiving a pin for use in adjusting a position of said lens assembly within said retainer.
- 24. The module of claim 17, wherein said lens assembly includes a notch formed at least partially about a periphery of said lens assembly, said notch adapted to receive adhesive material input into said system through said adhesive receiving aperture.
- 25. An optical reader comprising:
an image sensor; a lens retainer disposed optically forward of said image sensor, said lens retainer comprising a threaded interior wall; a threaded barrel lens assembly received in said threaded interior wall; and an adhesive receiving aperture formed in said interior wall defining an interface between said retainer and said lens assembly.
- 26. The optical reader of claim 25, wherein threads of said retainer and said barrel are substantially coarse to allow movement of said barrel in said retainer of a plurality of microns.
- 27. The optical reader of claim 25, wherein said threads of retainer and said barrel have a coarseness of at least that of ANSI Class 1 coarse threads.
