Claims
- 1. An optically active compound exhibiting a spontaneous polarization and represented by the general formula: ##STR450## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl group of 3-14 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each a lower alkyl group of 1-3 carbon atoms, R.sub.4 is an alkyl group of 1-10 carbon atoms, Q.sub.1 is a single bond or an ether bond and Q.sub.2 and Q.sub.3 ar each an ether bond or a carboxylic acid ester bond, M is, ##STR451## in which X and Y are each a carboxylic acid ester bond and *-marked carbon atoms are each as asymmetric carbon atom.
- 2. The optically active compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.4 are each a straight alkyl chain, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each a straight alkyl chain, Q.sub.1, Q.sub.2 and Q.sub.3 are each an ether bond, and M is ##STR452## where X is a carboxylic acid ester bond, Y is a single bond.
- 3. The optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the general formula: ##STR453## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl group of 3-14 carbon atoms and R.sub.4 is an alkyl group of 1-10 carbon atoms.
- 4. The optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR454##
- 5. The optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR455##
- 6. The optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR456##
- 7. The optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR457##
- 8. A liquid crystal optical device comprising a cell, a spacer and a liquid crystal composition containing at least one compound of claim 1 being sealed in said cell.
- 9. An optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR458##
- 10. An optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR459##
- 11. An optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR460##
- 12. An optically active compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR461##
- 13. An optically active compound exhibiting a spontaneous polarization and represented by the following formula: ##STR462## wherein X is a single bond, R.sub.1 is an alkyl group of 3-14 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently a lower alkyl group of 1-3 carbon atoms, R.sub.4 is an alkyl group of 1-10 carbon atoms, Q.sub.1 is a single bond or an ether bond, Q.sub.2 and Q.sub.3 are each an ether bond or a carboxylic acid and *-marked carbon atoms are each an asymmetrical carbon atom.
