Claims
- 1. A process for resolution which comprises hydrolyzing a 2-substituted-3-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester as a racemate of the general formula, ##STR86## to form a 2-substituted-3-hydroxycarboxylic acid of the general formula, ##STR87## reacting the carboxylic acid with an aldehyde of the general formula,
- R.sup.4 C H O (22)
- to form a 2,5,6-substituted-1,3-dioxan-4-one of the general formula, ##STR88## separating the resulting product into crystal and a mother liquor for recrystallization by recrystallization, effecting a ring-opening reaction of the crystal and the mother liquor residue by using an alcohol of the general formula,
- R.sup.5 O H (23)
- to resolve the racemate of formula (8) into 2,3-syn-2-substituted-3-hydroxycarboxylic acid esters of the general formulas, ##STR89## and 2,3-anti-2-substituted-3-hydroxycarboxylic acid esters of the general formulas, ##STR90## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.4 are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, and alkynyl, having 1-40 carbon atoms, the carbon chain may contain at least one member selected from the group consisting of halogen, cyano, oxygen, nitrogen, silicon, sulfur, benzene ring, cyclohexane ring, pyridine ring, pyrimidine ring, pyridazine ring, pyrazine ring, dioxane ring, bicyclooctane ring, and the rings with at least one substituent; R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl and alkynyl, having 1-40 carbon atoms.
- 2. A process for producing an optically active compound having plural chiral centers which comprises reacting a 2,5,6-substituted-1,3-dioxan-4-one having an absolute configuration as shown in one of the formulas ##STR91## with an alcohol of the formula
- R.sup.5 O H (23)
- to produce a 2-substituted-3-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester having an absolute configuration of one of the following formulas, respectively ##STR92## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.4 are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, and alkynyl, having 1-40 carbon atoms, the carbon chain may contain at least one member selected from the group consisting of halogen, cyano, oxygen, nitrogen, silicon, sulfur, benzene ring, cyclohexane ring, pyridine ring, pyrimidine ring, pyridazine ring, pyrazine ring, dioxane ring, bicyclo-octane ring, and the rings with at least one substituent; R.sub.5 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl and alkynyl, having 1-40 carbon atoms.
