Claims
- 1. A method for improving quality of images, the method taking as input an image, the method comprising the steps of:
a. generating a first list of pixels, the first list of pixels containing zero or more pixels selected from the input image based on a predefined criterion; b. generating a second list of pixels, the second list of pixels containing zero or more pixels selected from the input image based on a predefined criterion; and c. processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels to obtain an output image.
- 2. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising the step of smoothing the input image.
- 3. The method as recited in claim 2 wherein the step of smoothing the input image comprises the step of smoothing the input image using a diffusion filter.
- 4. The method as recited in claim 1 wherein the step of generating the first list of pixels comprises selecting pixels of the input image based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined coarse scale space value.
- 5. The method as recited in claim 1 wherein the step of generating the second list of pixels comprises selecting pixels of the input image based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined fine scale space value.
- 6. The method as recited in claim 1 wherein the step of processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels comprises the steps of:
a. selecting a pixel from the second list of pixels; b. if the percentage of selected pixel's neighbors present in the first list of pixels is more than or equal to a predefined percentage, then
i. adding the selected pixel to the output image; and ii. adding the neighbors of the selected pixel , which are present in the first list of pixels, to the second list of pixels; c. deleting the selected pixel from the second list of pixels; and d. repeating steps a to c above till the second list of pixels is empty.
- 7. A system for improving quality of images, the system comprising:
a. an image source, the image source being used to input an image; b. an image smoothening module to smoothen the input image; c. a processor comprising:
i. a pixel selector to generate two lists of pixels selected from the input image, the lists called first list of pixels and second list of pixels wherein the selection is based on predefined scale space values; and ii. an image generator to generate an output image, the generation being done using the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels; d. a database comprising:
i. a storage unit to store the input image; ii. a second storage unit to store the first list of pixels; iii. a third storage unit to store the second list of pixels; and iv. a fourth storage unit to store the output image; and e. an image displaying unit for displaying the output image.
- 8. A computer program product for use with a computer, the computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein for improving quality of images, the computer program product taking as input an image, the computer program code performing the steps of:
a. generating a first list of pixels, the first list of pixels containing zero or more pixels selected from the input image based on a predefined criterion; b. generating a second list of pixels, the second list of pixels containing zero or more pixels selected from the input image on a predefined criterion; and c. processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels to obtain an output image.
- 9. The computer program product as recited in claim 8, further comprising the step of smoothing the input image.
- 10. The computer program product as recited in claim 9 wherein the step of smoothing the input image comprises the step of smoothing the input image using a diffusion filter.
- 11. The computer program product as recited in claim 8 wherein the step of generating the first list of pixels comprises selecting pixels of the input image based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined coarse scale space value.
- 12. The computer program product as recited in claim 8 wherein the step of generating the second list of pixels comprises selecting pixels of the input image based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined fine scale space value.
- 13. The computer program product as recited in claim 8 wherein the step of processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels comprises the steps of:
a. selecting a pixel from the second list of pixels; b. if the percentage of selected pixel's neighbors present in the first list of pixels is more than or equal to a predefined percentage, then
i. adding the selected pixel to the output image; and ii. adding the neighbors of the selected pixel, which are present in the first list of pixels, to the second list of pixels; c. deleting the selected pixel from the second list of pixels; and d. repeating steps a to c above till the second list of pixels is empty.
- 14. A method for improving quality of images, the method taking as input an image, the method comprising the steps of:
a. smoothing the input image; b. generating a first list of pixels, the first list of pixels containing pixels selected from the input image based on a predefined criterion; c. generating a second list of pixels, the second list of pixels containing pixels selected from the input image based on a predefined criterion; and d. processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels to obtain an output image with improved quality.
- 15. The method as recited in claim 14 wherein the step of smoothing the input image comprises the step of smoothing the input image using a diffusion filter.
- 16. The method as recited in claim 14 wherein the step of generating the first list of pixels comprises selecting pixels of the input image based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined coarse scale space value.
- 17. The method as recited in claim 14 wherein the step of generating the second list of pixels comprises selecting pixels of the input image based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined fine scale space value.
- 18. The method as recited in claim 14 wherein the step of processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels comprises the steps of:
a. selecting a pixel from the second list of pixels; b. if the percentage of selected pixel's neighbors present in the first list of pixels is more than or equal to a predefined percentage, then
i. adding the selected pixel to the output image; and ii. adding the neighbors of the selected pixel, which are present in the first list of pixels, to the second list of pixels; c. deleting the selected pixel from the second list of pixels; and d. repeating steps a to c above till the second list of pixels is empty.
- 19. A method for improving quality of images, the method comprising the steps of:
a. smoothing an input image; b. generating a first list of pixels, the first list of pixels containing pixels selected from the input image, the selection being based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the input image pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined coarse scale space value; c. generating a second list of pixels, the second list of pixels containing pixels selected from the input image, the selection being based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the input image pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined fine scale space value; and d. processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels to obtain an output image with improved quality wherein the step of processing comprises the steps of:
i. selecting a pixel from the second list of pixels; ii. if the percentage of selected pixel's neighbors present in the first list of pixels is more than or equal to a predefined percentage, then
1. adding the selected pixel to the output image; and 2. adding the neighbors of the selected pixel, which are present in the first list of pixels, to the second list of pixels; iii. deleting the selected pixel from the second list of pixels; and iv. repeating steps i to iii above till the second list of pixels is empty.
- 20. The method as recited in claim 19 wherein the step of smoothing the input image comprising the step of smoothing the input image using a diffusion filter.
- 21. A computer program product for use with a computer, the computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein for improving quality of images, the computer program product taking as input an image, the computer program code performing the steps of:
a. smoothing the input image; b. generating a first list of pixels, the first list of pixels containing pixels selected from the input image, the selection being based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the input image pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined coarse scale space value; c. generating a second list of pixels, the second list of pixels containing pixels selected from the input image, the selection being based on eigen values of Hessian matrix of the input image pixels, the Hessian matrix being calculated at a predefined fine scale space value; and d. processing the first list of pixels and the second list of pixels to obtain an output image with improved quality wherein the step of processing comprises the steps of:
i. selecting a pixel from the second list of pixels; ii. if the percentage of selected pixel's neighbors present in the first list of pixels is more than or equal to a predefined percentage, then
1. adding the selected pixel to the output image; and 2. adding the neighbors of the selected pixel, which are present in the first list of pixels, to the second list of pixels; iii. deleting the selected pixel from the second list of pixels; and iv. repeating steps i to iii above till the second list of pixels is empty.
- 22. The computer program product as recited in claim 21 wherein the step of smoothing the input image comprises the step of smoothing the input image using a diffusion filter.
