Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR30## wherein R is ##STR31## wherein each R.sub.13 is independently hydrogen or halo, with the proviso that at least one R.sub.13 is halo,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen, cyano, --COR.sub.4 or --CONR.sub.5 R.sub.6,
- wherein
- R.sub.4 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl or phenyl,
- R.sub.5 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or phenyl, and
- R.sub.6 is hydrogen or primary or secondary C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, phenyl, benzyl or phenylethyl,
- R.sub.3 is straight or branched C.sub.2-8 alkylene, straight or branched C.sub.2-8 alkenylene or -AlK-O-Alk-,
- wherein
- each Alk is straight or branched alkylene or alkenylene, with the provisos that the two Alk radicals together contain no more than 8 carbon atoms and not more than one Alk radical is straight or branched alkenylene, and
- Q is ##STR32## wherein each of R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 is independently C.sub.1-8 alkyl,
- R.sub.9 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkyl monosubstituted by halo, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, (C.sub.1-4 alkyl)carbonyl or benzoyl,
- R.sub.10 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- R.sub.11 is benzyl or benzyl having 1 to 3 substituents selected from halo and C.sub.1-4 alkyl on its phenyl ring, and
- A.sup..crclbar. is an anion,
- with the provisos that three of the R.sub.13 's are halo and one R.sub.13 is hydrogen when Q is ##STR33## and that the molecule is free of ##STR34## radicals.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein Q is ##STR35##
- 3. A compound according to claim 3 wherein Q is ##STR36##
- 4. A compound according to claim 2 wherein Q is ##STR37##
- 5. A compound according to claim 1 wherein Q is ##STR38##
- 6. A compound according to claim 5 wherein Q is ##STR39##
- 7. A compound according to claim 5 wherein Q is ##STR40##
- 8. A compound according to claim 1 having the formula ##STR41## wherein R.sub.a is ##STR42## wherein each R.sub.13a is independently hydrogen, chloro or bromo, with the provisos that (i) at least one R.sub.13a is hydrogen, (ii) at least one R.sub.13a is chloro or bromo, (iii) when an R.sub.13a is chloro, each of the others is hydrogen or chloro and (iv) when an R.sub.13a is bromo, each of the others is hydrogen or bromo,
- R.sub.1a is cyano or --CONH.sub.2,
- R.sub.2a is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl,
- R.sub.3a is --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --, ##STR43## --CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH--CH.sub.2 --or --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --,
- wherein
- each R.sub.14 is independently n-C.sub.1-4 alkyl, with the proviso that when two R.sub.14 's are present the total number of carbon atoms is not greater than 6,
- n is 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, and
- the * indicates the carbon atom attached to the pyridone ring, and
- Q.sub.a is ##STR44## wherein R.sub.7a is C.sub.1-6 alkyl,
- R.sub.8a is C.sub.1-6 alkyl,
- R.sub.9a is C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkyl monosubstituted by C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, (C.sub.1-4 alkyl)carbonyl or benzoyl,
- R.sub.10a is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl,
- R.sub.11a is benzyl or benzyl having 1 to 3 substituents selected from chloro, bromo and C.sub.1-4 alkyl on its phenyl ring, and
- A.sup..crclbar. is an anion,
- with the provisos that three of the R.sub.13a 's are chloro or bromo and one R.sub.13a is hydrogen when Q.sub.a is ##STR45## that the molecule is free of ##STR46## radicals.
- 9. A compound according to claim 8 wherein Q.sub.a is ##STR47##
- 10. A compound according to claim 9 wherein Q.sub.a is ##STR48##
- 11. A compound according to claim 9 wherein Q.sub.a is ##STR49##
- 12. A compound according to claim 8 wherein Q.sub.a is ##STR50##
- 13. A compound according to claim 12 wherein Q.sub.a is ##STR51##
- 14. A compound according to claim 12 wherein Q.sub.a is ##STR52##
- 15. A compound according to claim 8 having the formula ##STR53## wherein R.sub.b is ##STR54## wherein each R.sub.13b is independently hydrogen or chloro, with the proviso that at least one R.sub.13b is chloro,
- R.sub.3b is --(CH.sub.2).sub.n' --, ##STR55## wherein n' is 2, 3 or 4, and
- the * indicates the carbon atom attached to the pyridone ring, and
- Q.sub.b is ##STR56## wherein R.sub.7b is C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- R.sub.8b is C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- R.sub.9b is n-C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- R.sub.11b is benzyl or benzyl the phenyl ring of which is monosubstituted by methyl, ethyl, chloro or bromo, and
- A.sup..crclbar. is an anion,
- with the proviso that R.sub.b is ##STR57## when Q.sub.b is ##STR58##
