Claims
- 1. An oral composition having enhanced mouthfeel comprising acylglycerol compounds having substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 attached at the positions of the OH.sup.- groups of a glycerol backbone; wherein:
- a) R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acids having from 16 carbon atoms to 22 carbon atoms: wherein at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is independently selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid; and
- b) R.sub.3, is selected from the group consisting of R.sub.1, OH, PO.sub.3 HR.sub.4, and C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 carboxylic acids;
- wherein R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of OH, choline, inositol, serine, and ethanolamine;
- and wherein the oral composition comprises less than about 1% of free conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acids and monoacylglycerol compounds.
- 2. An oral composition according to claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid; and wherein the composition comprises less than about 0.1% of free conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acids and monoacylglycerol compounds.
- 3. An oral composition according to claim 2 wherein at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is conjugated linoleic acid.
- 4. An oral composition according to claim 3 wherein R.sub.1 is conjugated linoleic acid.
- 5. An oral composition according to claim 3 wherein R.sub.2 is conjugated linoleic acid.
- 6. An oral composition according to claim 3 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are conjugated linoleic acid and R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, OH and C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 carboxylic acids.
- 7. An oral composition according to claim 6 wherein R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid and OH.
- 8. An oral composition according to claim 7 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) about 50% acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH;
- b) about 50% acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid.
- 9. An oral composition according to claim 8 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) greater than 50% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH;
- b) less than 50% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid.
- 10. An oral composition according to claim 9 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) greater than 70% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH;
- b) less than 30% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2. and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid.
- 11. An oral composition according to claim 10 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) greater than 90% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH;
- b) less than 10% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid.
- 12. An oral composition according to claim 11 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH.
- 13. An oral composition according to claim 12 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are conjugated linoleic acid.
- 14. An oral composition according to claim 8 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) greater than 50% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid;
- b) less than 50% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH.
- 15. An oral composition according to claim 14 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) greater than 70% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid;
- b) less than 30% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH.
- 16. An oral composition according to claim 15 wherein said acylglycerol compounds comprise:
- a) greater than 90% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid;
- b) less than 10% of acylglycerol compounds wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.3 is OH.
- 17. An oral composition according to claim 16 wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid.
- 18. An oral composition according to claim 17 wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are conjugated linoleic acid.
- 19. An oral composition according to claim 1 wherein one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is palmitic acid.
- 20. An oral composition according to claim 19 wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid and R.sub.2 is palmitic acid.
- 21. An oral composition according to claim 20 wherein R.sub.1 is conjugated linoleic acid.
- 22. An oral composition having enhanced mouthfeel comprising acylglycerol compounds having substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 attached at the positions of the OH.sup.- groups of a glycerol backbone; wherein:
- a) R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acids having from 16 carbon atoms to 22 carbon atoms; wherein at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 is independently selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid; and
- b) R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of OH, PO.sub.3 HR.sub.4, and C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 carboxylic acids;
- wherein R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of OH, choline, inositol, serine, and ethanolamine;
- and wherein the oral composition comprises less than about 1% of free conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acids and monoacylglycerol compounds.
- 23. An oral composition according to claim 22 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from the group consisting of conjugated linoleic acid, conjugated linolenic acid, and conjugated arachidonic acid; and wherein the composition comprises less than about 0.1% of free conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acids and monoacylglycerol compounds.
- 24. An oral composition according to claim 23 wherein at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 is conjugated linoleic acid.
- 25. An oral composition according to claim 1 wherein said oral composition is selected from the group consisting of foods, beverages, dental compositions, over-the-counter and/or prescription pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals.
- 26. An oral composition according to claim 22 wherein said oral composition is selected from the group consisting of foods, beverages, dental compositions, over-the-counter and/or prescription pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals.
