Claims
- 1. Organic compounds of formula (I) having at least one ethylenically-unsaturated group, said organic compounds being suitable for use as reactive diluents: ##STR18## wherein: R.sup.1 is --C.sub.x H.sub.2x =wherein x is an integer ranging from 1 to 12;
- R.sup.3 is H;
- R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of --OH, --O--C(.dbd.O)--C(R.sup.5).dbd.CH.sub.2, and --NR.sup.6 --C(.dbd.O )--C(R.sup.5).dbd.CH.sub.2 ;
- R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of, C.sub.x H.sub.2x+1,--C(.dbd.O)C(T').dbd.CH.sub.2 and --C.sub.x H.sub.2x --O--C(.dbd.O)--C(T').dbd.CH.sub.2 where T' is H, C.sub.x H.sub.2x or --(C.sub.y H.sub.2y)--O--(C.sub.y' H.sub.2y')--, x is an integer ranging from 1 to 12 and y and y' are selected from integers ranging from 1 to 6;
- R.sup.6 is selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl groups having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, --C(.dbd.O)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, and --R.sup.1 --O--C(.dbd.O)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 ;
- W is selected from the group consisting of O, S, NR.sup.5 ; X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of O, S, NR.sup.6, with the proviso that all W, X and Y groups cannot be O; and
- n is 1.
- 2. Compounds in accordance with claim 1 wherein a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated groups are present in the compound.
- 3. Compounds in accordance with claim 1 wherein the number of ethylenically unsaturated groups in the compound ranges from 1 to 10.
- 4. Compounds selected from the group consisting of compounds within general formula (VII): ##STR19## wherein: each W is independently selected from the group consisting of NR.sup.30 , O, and S;
- each Y is selected independently and can be the same or different, Y being selected from the group consisting of O, S, and NR.sup.31, with the proviso that all W and Y groups cannot be O;
- R.sup.29 is selected from the group consisting of H and --C(.dbd.W)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 ;
- R.sup.30 is selected from the group consisting of H and --C.sub.x H.sub.2x+1 ;
- R.sup.31 is selected from the group consisting of H, --C.sub.x H.sub.2x+1, --C(.dbd.W)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, and C.sub.x H.sub.2x --O--C(.dbd.W)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 ; and
- x ranges from 1 to 10 inclusive;
- R.sup.30 and R.sup.31 may be the same or different.
- 5. Salicylic acid derivatives selected from the group consisting of compounds within general formula (XIII): ##STR20## wherein: each Y.sup.2 is independently selected from the group consisting of NR.sup.44 and O; with the proviso that both Y.sup.2 groups cannot simultaneously be O; and
- R.sup.44 is selected from the group consisting of --H, --C.sub.x H.sub.2x+1, --C(.dbd.O)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, and --C.sub.x H.sub.2x --O--C(.dbd.O)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 ; and
- x ranges from 1 to 10 inclusive.
- 6. A coatable, addition polymerizable binder precursor composition comprising:
- (a) an addition polymerizable resin; and
- (b) an organic compound in accordance with claim 1.
- 7. A coatable, addition polymerizable binder precursor composition in accordance with claim 6 comprising a plurality of abrasive particles.
- 8. A coatable, addition polymerizable binder precursor composition comprising:
- (a) an organic compound in accordance with claim 1; and
- (b) a plurality of abrasive particles.
- 9. Organic compounds of formula (I) having at least one ethylenically-unsaturated group, said organic compounds being suitable for use as reactive diluents: ##STR21## wherein: R.sup.1 is --C.sub.x H.sub.2x -- wherein x is an integer ranging from 1 to 12;
- R.sup.3 is H;
- R.sup.4 is --OH;
- W is selected from the group consisting of O, S, NR.sup.5 ; X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of O, S, NR.sup.6, with the proviso that all W, X and Y groups cannot be O;
- n is 2;
- R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of H, C.sub.x H.sub.2x+1, --C(.dbd.O)C(T').dbd.CH.sub.2, and --C.sub.x H.sub.2x --O--C(.dbd.O)--C(T').dbd.CH.sub.2 where T' is H, C.sub.x H.sub.2x or --(C.sub.y H.sub.2y)--O--(C.sub.y' H.sub.2y')--, x is an integer ranging from 1 to 12 and y and y' are selected from integers ranging from 1 to 6; and
- R.sup.6 is selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl groups having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, --C(.dbd.O)--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, and --R.sup.1 --O--C(.dbd.O)--CH--CH.sub.2.
- 10. Compounds in accordance with claim 9 wherein a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated groups are present in the compound.
- 11. Compounds in accordance with claim 9 wherein the number of ethylenically unsaturated groups in the compound ranges from 1 to 10.
- 12. Compounds selected from the group consisting of:
- N,N'-di(acryloyloxyethyl)-N,N'-dimethyl phthalamide;
- N,N'-di(acryloyloxyethyl)-N,N'-diethyl phthalamide; and
- N,N'-di(acryloyloxyethyl)-N,N'-dipropyl phthalamide.
- 13. A coatable, addition polymerizable binder precursor composition comprising:
- (a) an addition polymerizable resin; and
- (b) an organic compound in accordance with claim 9.
- 14. A coatable, addition polymerizable binder precursor composition in accordance with claim 13 comprising a plurality of abrasive particles.
- 15. A coatable, addition polymerizable binder precursor composition comprising:
- (a) an organic compound in accordance with claim 9; and
- (b) a plurality of abrasive particles.
