Claims
- 1. A compound selected from the group consisting of organic diamine bases of the formula: ##STR6## and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, wherein
- X' is a member selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano and lower alkoxy; and
- Y and Y' are each a member selected from the group consisting of amino, lower N-monoalkylamino, lower N,N-dialkylamino, pyridylamino, pyrrolidino, piperidino, homopiperidino, morpholino, thiomorpholino, 2,3-dihydroisoindolyl and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolyl.
- 2. A compound as claimed in claim 1 wherein X' is nitro and Y and Y' are each piperidino.
- 3. A compound as claimed in claim 1 wherein X' is cyano and Y and Y' are each piperidino.
- 4. A compound as claimed in claim 2 wherein X' is nitro at the 4-position of the molecule.
- 5. A compound as claimed in claim 3 wherein X' is cyano at the 4-position of the molecule.
- 6. A pharmaceutical composition suitable for oral administration comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and an effective blood sugar lowering amount of an oral hypoglycemic agent, said agent being a compound selected from the group consisting of organic diamine bases of the formula ##STR7## and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, wherein
- X is a member selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano, lower alkyl and lower alkoxy and
- Y and Y' are each a member selected from the group consisting of amino, lower N-monoalkylamino, lower N,N-dialkylamino, pyridylamino, pyrrolidino, piperidino, homopiperidino, morpholino, thiomorpholino, 2,3-dihydroisoindolyl and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolyl.
- 7. A composition of claim 6 wherein X is nitro and Y and Y' are each piperidino.
- 8. A composition of claim 7 wherein X is 4-nitro.
- 9. A composition of claim 6 wherein X is cyano and Y and Y' are each piperidino.
- 10. A composition of claim 9 wherein X is 4-cyano.
- 11. A method for lowering blood sugar in the treatment of a diabetic host, which comprises orally administering to said host an effective blood sugar lowering amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of organic diamine bases of the formula ##STR8## and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, wherein
- X is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, lower alkyl and lower alkoxy and
- Y and Y' are each a member selected from the group consisting of amino, lower N-monoalkylamino, lower N,N-dialkylamino, pyridylamino, pyrrolidino, piperidino, homopiperidino, morpholino, thiomorpholino, 2,3-dihydroisoindolyl and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolyl.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein X is nitro and Y and Y' are each piperidino.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein X is 4-nitro.
- 14. The method of claim 11 wherein X is cyano and Y and Y' are each piperidino.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein X is 4-cyano.
