This application claims the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 10-2018-0022237 filed on Feb. 23, 2018 in the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein in its entirety by reference.
One or more embodiments relate to an organometallic compound, an organic light-emitting device including the same, and an organic light-emitting apparatus including the organic light-emitting device.
Organic light-emitting devices are self-emission devices that produce full-color images, and also have wide viewing angles, high contrast ratios, short response times, and excellent characteristics in terms of brightness, driving voltage, and response speed, compared to devices in the art.
An example of such organic light-emitting devices may include a first electrode disposed on a substrate, and a hole transport region, an emission layer, an electron transport region, and a second electrode, which are sequentially disposed on the first electrode. Holes provided from the first electrode may move toward the emission layer through the hole transport region, and electrons provided from the second electrode may move toward the emission layer through the electron transport region. Carriers, such as holes and electrons, recombine in the emission layer to produce excitons. These excitons transit from an excited state to a ground state, thereby generating light.
Aspects of the present disclosure provide a novel organometallic compound and an organic light-emitting device including the same.

The organometallic compound may be selected from Compounds 1 to 13:
Since L1 in the organometallic compound represented by Formula 1 includes the ligand represented by Formula 2, a highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level of the organometallic compound may increase, and it is possible to provide an effect of shifting a maximum emission wavelength to a long wavelength.
Specifically, since the ligand represented by Formula 2 includes a pyridine derivative as an upper moiety, it is possible to provide an effect of stabilizing a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO).
In addition, since the ligand represented by Formula 2 includes a perimidine derivative as a lower moiety, a strong electron donating effect is exhibited without introducing a bulky condensed ring such as pyrene. A value of HOMO is increased to shift an emission wavelength to a red light emitting wavelength, thereby providing an effect of shifting an emission wavelength to an NIR region.
Since the organometallic compound may emit NIR light having a maximum emission wavelength of about 680 nm or more, for example, about 680 nm to about 1,500 nm, the organometallic compound may be used for manufacturing an organic light-emitting device that emits NIR light.
A synthesis method for the organometallic compound represented by Formula 1 would be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art by referring to the following examples.
At least one of the organometallic compound of Formula 1 may be used between a pair of electrodes of an organic light-emitting device. Accordingly, provided is an organic light-emitting device including: a first electrode; a second electrode facing the first electrode; and an organic layer between the first electrode and the second electrode, the organic layer including an emission layer, wherein the organic layer includes at least one organometallic cyclic compound represented by Formula 1.

As a substrate and an ITO anode, a Corning 15 Ω/cm2 (120 nm) ITO glass substrate was cut to a size of 50 mm×50 mm×0.7 mm, sonicated with isopropyl alcohol and pure water each for 5 minutes, and then cleaned by exposure to ultraviolet rays and ozone for 30 minutes. Then, the glass substrate was provided to a vacuum deposition apparatus.
Compound HT and p-dopant were co-deposited on the ITO anode formed on the glass substrate at a weight ratio of 99:1 to form a hole transport layer having a thickness of 120 nm.
Compound H-1 (host) and Compound 2 (dopant) were co-deposited on the hole transport layer at a weight of 97:3 to form an emission layer having a thickness of 30 nm.
Compound ET1 was deposited on the emission layer to form a buffer layer having a thickness of 5 nm, Compound ET2 was deposited on the buffer layer to form an electron transport layer having a thickness of 25 nm, LiF was deposited on the electron transport layer to form an electron injection layer having a thickness of 0.5 nm, and Al was vacuum-deposited on the electron injection layer to form a cathode having a thickness of 150 nm, thereby completing the manufacture of an organic light-emitting device.
Organic light-emitting devices were manufactured in the same manner as in Example 2, except that Compounds shown in Table 1 were each used instead of Compound 2 as a dopant in forming an emission layer.
The driving voltage, current density, luminance, external quantum efficiency (EQE), and maximum emission wavelength of the organic light-emitting devices manufactured according to Examples 1 to 13 and Comparative Examples 1 to 3 were measured by using Keithley SMU 236 and a luminance meter PR650, and results thereof are shown in Table 2.
Referring to Table 1, it is confirmed that the organic light-emitting devices of Examples 1 to 13 have high external quantum efficiency, as compared with those of the organic light-emitting devices of Comparative Examples 1 to 3. In addition, it is confirmed that the organic light-emitting devices of Examples 1 to 13 may shift an emission wavelength to a long wavelength, and are thus suitable for NIR light emission.
The organic light-emitting device may have a low driving voltage and high efficiency and emit light in a near-infrared (NIR) region.
