Claims
- 1. Graphitizable metals-containing as spun mesophase pitch fibers having enhanced oxygen reactivity properties which contain from about 50 PPM to about 1000 PPM metals from at least one organometallic compound, said organometallic compound has a porphin type structure and is thermally stable at temperatures of 350.degree. C. or greater.
- 2. The graphitizable, metals-containing as spun fibers of claim 1, wherein the fibers contain from about 80 PPM to about 1,000 PPM of the metals from at least one organometallic compound.
- 3. The graphitizable, metals-containing as spun fibers of claim 1, wherein the metal component of said organometallic compound is selected from the group consisting of vanadium, nickel, magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, iridium, manganese and titanium and mixtures thereof.
