Claims
- 1. An organic dye comprising:
- (a) an electron donor group;
- (b) an electron acceptor group;
- (c) a delocalized Pi electron system linking said electron donor group and said electron acceptor group; and
- (d) at least two pendant groups:
- (i) each of said at least two pendant groups comprising at least one carbon--carbon double bond; and
- (ii) said at least two pendant groups being attached to two different sites from said electron donor group, said electron acceptor group, and said delocalized Pi electron system; and
- (iii) at least two carbon--carbon double bonds are hydrosilation reactive and said carbon--carbon double bonds are of differing hydrosilation activity.
- 2. The organic dye of claim 1, having the formula: ##STR33## wherein: Z.sub.1 through Z.sub.6 are selected from the group consisting of: ##STR34## J and J.sub.1 through J.sub.5 are selected from the group consisting of: --N.dbd.N, --CH.dbd.CH--, --CH.dbd.N--, and --N.dbd.CH--;
- A is selected from the group consisting of:
- --NO.sub.2, --CN, --CH.dbd.CH--NO.sub.2, --CH.dbd.CH--CN, --CH.dbd.C(CN).sub.2, --C(CN).dbd.C(CN).sub.2, --SO.sub.2 R, --CO.sub.2 R, --SO.sub.3 R, --CF.sub.3, and --SO.sub.2 CF.sub.3 ;
- D is selected from the group consisting of ##STR35## Y.sub.1 through Y.sub.12 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkoxy groups, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, E--(CH.sub.2).sub.q --Q.sub.w --, and CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R.sub.1)--CO.sub.2 (CH.sub.2).sub.q --Q.sub.w --;
- R, Y.sub.13 and Y.sub.14 are selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, E--(CH.sub.2).sub.q --Q.sub.w -- and CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R.sub.1)--CO.sub.2 --(CH.sub.2).sub.q --Q.sub.w --;
- E is selected from the group consisting of R.sub.2 --C(R.sub.3).dbd.C(R.sub.4)--, 2-cyclopentenyl, 3-cyclopentenyl, 2-cyclohexenyl, 3-cyclohexenyl and norbornenyl;
- Q is selected from the group consisting of --O--, S, --N(R.sub.5)-- and a covalent bond;
- R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl groups;
- R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, cyclic --(CH.sub.2).sub.4 -- formed by the linkage of R.sub.6 and R.sub.7, and cyclic --(CH.sub.2).sub.5 -- formed by the linkage of R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 ;
- u=0-1;
- x1, x2, x3, x4, and x5=0-1;
- q=0-10; and
- w=0-1;
- wherein:
- when each of Y.sub.1 through Y.sub.12 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkoxy groups, chlorine, bromine, and fluorine, then A, and one member selected from the group consisting of Y.sub.13 and Y.sub.14, must both include hydrosilation reactive carbon--carbon double bonds; and
- when all but one of Y.sub.1 through Y.sub.12 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkoxy groups, chlorine, bromine, and fluorine, then one member selected from the group consisting of Y.sub.13, Y.sub.14 and A must include a hydrosilation reactive carbon--carbon double bond and groups Y.sub.1 -Y.sub.12, A and D include at least two carbon--carbon double bonds of differing hydrosilation activity.
- 3. The compound of claim 2, wherein:
- Z.sub.1 through Z.sub.6 are selected from the group consisting of ##STR36## J and J.sub.1 through J.sub.5 are selected from the group consisting of --N.dbd.N--, --CH.dbd.CH--, --N.dbd.CH--, and --CH.dbd.N--;
- A is selected from the group consisting of --NO.sub.2, --CH.dbd.C(CN).sub.2, --C(CN).dbd.C(CN).sub.2, --SO.sub.2 R, and --CF.sub.3 ;
- D is selected from the group consisting of ##STR37## R and Y.sub.1 through Y.sub.14 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkoxy groups, CH.dbd.CH--CH.sub.2 --, CH.dbd.C(CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.2 --, CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHC(.dbd.O)O--, CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHC(.dbd.O)O(CH.sub.2).sub.q --, CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)C(.dbd.O)O--, and CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)C(.dbd.O)O(CH.sub.2).sub.q --, such that all but one of Y.sub.1 through Y.sub.12 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl groups, and C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkoxy groups;
- q=2-5; and
- x1+x2+x3+x4+x5=0-2.
