Claims
- 1. A film projector, for use with frames of processed photographic film having frame-associated image orientation data, comprising:
- a light source emitting a collimated beam
- a film holder disposed to hold individual frames of said film in said beam, said film holder being pivotable between a first orientation and a second orientation, said orientations being substantially orthogonal;
- an optical projection system receiving said beam from said film holder, said optical system propagating and focusing at least a portion of said beam on a viewing plane external to said projector;
- a sensor disposed to read said frame-associated image orientation data, said sensor producing a signal responsive to said frame-associated image orientation data;
- a controller receiving said signal from said sensor; and
- a repositioner connected to said film holder, said repositioner being operatively connected to said controller to move said film holder between said orientations responsive to said controller;
- wherein said processed film is held by a slide mount and said sensor is disposed to read said frame-associated image configuration information.
- 2. The projector of claim 1 wherein said frame-associated image configuration information is borne by said mount and said sensor is disposed to read said mount.
- 3. The projector of claim 2 wherein said sensor further comprises a writer disposed to write information on said mount.
- 4. The projector of claim 1 wherein said film holder is pivotable among a horizontal orientation and two different vertical orientations.
- 5. The projector of claim 1 wherein said sensor reads optically encoded information.
- 6. The projector of claim 5 wherein said sensor reads magnetically encoded information.
- 7. The projector of claim 1 wherein said sensor reads magnetically encoded information.
- 8. The projector of claim 1 wherein said film holder is adapted to receive a cartridge containing a filmstrip and said film holder includes a drive disposed to engage the cartridge.
- 9. The projector of claim 1 wherein said optical system includes a zoom mechanism.
- 10. The projector of claim 9 wherein said zoom mechanism is operatively connected to said controller.
- 11. A film projector, for use with frames of processed photographic film having frame-associated image orientation data, comprising:
- a light source emitting a collimated beam
- a film holder disposed to hold individual frames of said film in said beam, said film holder being pivotable between a first orientation and a second orientation, said orientations being substantially orthogonal;
- a projection lens system receiving said beam from said film holder, said lens system propagating and focusing at least a portion of said beam on a viewing plane external to said optical projection system;
- a sensor disposed to read optically encoded frame-associated image orientation data, said sensor producing a signal responsive to said frame-associated image orientation data;
- a controller receiving said signal from said sensor; and
- a repositioner connected to said film holder, said repositioner being operatively connected to said controller to move said film holder between said orientations responsive to said controller.
- 12. A film projector, for use with frames of processed photographic film having frame-associated image orientation data, comprising:
- a light source emitting a collimated beam
- a film holder disposed to hold individual frames of said film in said beam, said film holder being pivotable between a first orientation and a second orientation, said orientations being substantially orthogonal;
- a projection lens system receiving said beam from said film holder, said lens system propagating and focusing at least a portion of said beam on a viewing plane external to said optical projection system, said lens system including a zoom mechanism operatively connected to said controller;
- a sensor disposed to read said frame-associated image orientation data, said sensor producing a signal responsive to said frame-associated image orientation data;
- a controller receiving said signal from said sensor; and
- a repositioner connected to said film holder, said repositioner being operatively connected to said controller to move said film holder between said orientations responsive to said controller.
- 13. The projector of claim 12 further comprising a horizontal-vertical positioning mechanism disposed to move the film holder, whereby a zoomed area can be recentered.
- 14. The film projector of claim 12 further comprising a lift mechanism for extracting the film from the film holder.
- 15. The projector of claim 12 wherein said sensor further comprises a writer disposed to write frame-associated information.
- 16. The projector of claim 12 wherein said film holder is pivotable among a horizontal orientation and two different vertical orientations.
- 17. The projector of claim 12 wherein said sensor reads optically encoded information.
- 18. The projector of claim 17 wherein said sensor reads magnetically encoded information.
- 19. The projector of claim 12 wherein said sensor reads magnetically encoded information.
- 20. The projector of claim 12 wherein said processed film is held by a slide mount and said frame-associated image configuration information is borne by said mount and said sensor is disposed to read said mount.
