Claims
- 1. A method of making orthodontic appliances comprising the steps of:
- introducing molten alloy material into a mold;
- quenching the material to form bulk material pieces of an amorphous alloy;
- forming a continuous amorphous alloy wire from the bulk material pieces; and
- molding the wire in a hot working press to form the orthodontic appliance.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of quenching the material comprises quenching the material at a cooling speed of 10.sup.4 to 10.sup.7 K/s.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of forming a continuous amorphous alloy wire comprises introducing the bulk material pieces between a pair of rotating rollers.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of molding the wire comprises heating a tip portion of the wire to a temperature of about 670K and introducing the tip portion into the hot working press.
- 5. A method of making an orthodontic appliance comprising the steps of:
- introducing molten alloy material into a mold cavity; and
- quenching the material at a cooling speed of 10.sup.4 to 10.sup.7 K/s to form an orthodontic appliance comprising an amorphous alloy.
