Claims
- 1. A limb-positioning attachment for maintaining an extremity in optimal joint alignment during the application of a cast and adapted for use with a casting stand having a plate-like limb-support assembly, said limb-positioning attachment comprising:
- structure defining a passage of fixed dimension greater in length and width than height, constructed and arranged to slide lengthwise over, engage, and be supported from within by, a plate-like support and be located in a predetermined orientation with respect thereto by the cross-sectional shape of the passage, which is one of non-revolution;
- releasable attachment means engageable with the limb-support assembly to inhibit sliding of the attachment on the support, said means including a tongue extending lengthwise from and beyond one end of the passage and said releasable attachment means being in or on said tongue; and
- a limb-engaging surface integral with the structure defining the passage to hold a limb extremity resting on the surface in a desired position.
- 2. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 1 wherein the passage in the limb-support member is characterized by having interior dimensions and an interior shape corresponding closely to exterior dimensions and an exterior shape of said limb-support assembly.
- 3. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 2 wherein the releasable attachment means of the limb-positioning attachment comprises a spring-biased-detent-receiving means having a surface transverse to the length of the passage.
- 4. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 1 wherein the releasable attachment means of the limb-positioning attachment comprises a spring-biased-detent-receiving means having a surface transverse to the length of the passage.
- 5. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 1 wherein the limb-engaging surface on the limb-support member comprises an elongated hand-supporting portion narrower than the structure defining said passage and having a pair of converging hand guides extending from and on either side of the hand-supporting portion to maintain a hand resting on the limb-engaging surface in the desired position.
- 6. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 5 wherein the hand-supporting portion includes a surface curled transversely to conform to the contour of the ulnar region of the hand.
- 7. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 1 wherein the limb-engaging surface is characterized by being plagioperpendicular to the length of the passage.
- 8. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 7 wherein the limb-engaging surface is further characterized by having a positive heel locator to maintain a foot resting thereon in the desired position.
- 9. The limb-positioning attachment of claim 7 wherein the limb-engaging surface is further characterized by having a slip-resistant surface to frictionally maintain a foot resting thereon in the desired position.
