Osteospermum Plant Named 'KLEOE15272'

Abstract

A new Osteospermum plant particularly distinguished by ray florets having light purple tips and white centers and a semi-upright growth habit, is disclosed.

Description

Genus and species: Osteospermum ecklonis.

Variety denomination: ‘KLEOE15272’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Osteospermum, botanically known as Osteospermum ecklonis, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEOE15272’. ‘KLEOE15272’ originated from a cross-pollination conducted in summer 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya between the proprietary female Osteospermum variety ‘OE-2002-V 034’ (unpatented), and the male Osteospermum variety Brandkamp ‘White Pink Tips’ (patent status unknown).

The seeds from the cross were sown and plants were grown in a greenhouse for evaluation, where an individual plant designated ‘KLEOE15272’ was selected from the group of plants in spring 2012. In spring 2012, ‘KLEOE15272’ was first vegetatively propagated by terminal vegetative cuttings. ‘KLEOE15272’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via terminal vegetative cuttings.

SUMMARY

The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

This new Osteospermum plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows the plant's overall plant habit including form, foliage, buds, and flowers. The photograph is of a four-month-old plant grown in a greenhouse in Stuttgart, Germany in April 2014. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.

The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on four-month-old plants grown in a greenhouse in Stuttgart, Germany in June 2016. Color references are to The R.H.S. ‘KLEOE15272’ is distinguished from its parents, the female parent ‘OE-2002-V 034’ (unpatented) and the male parent, Brandkamp ‘White Pink Tips’ (patent status unknown), as described in Table 1.
