Claims
- 1. A molded package for retaining a wound suture in a channel within the package, including a space having a floor surrounded by said channel for retaining a needle comprising:
- a molded projection formed within said space projecting from said floor; and
- a flexible molded section located adjacent said projection and spaced apart from said projection by less than the diameter of a needle, said molded section undergoing flexure when said needle is emplaced between said projection and said molded section;
- wherein said molded section comprises a molded rail with a pair of ends and having a length greater than its height, its height being in the dimension of the height of said molded projection, and said rail being supported by supporting projections at its ends.
- 2. The molded package of claim 1, wherein a portion of said molded section opposing said molded projection is detached from the underlying floor of said space.
- 3. The molded package of claim 1, wherein the surface of said molded section opposing said projection includes at least one molded needle retention rib.
- 4. The molded package of claim 1, wherein said molded projection comprises a rounded projecting post.
- 5. A package for retaining a wound suture comprising:
- a channel having an outer wall, an inner wall, a floor and a top formed by a first and a second molded package piece;
- said first molded package piece having a length, a width, and a thickness with said channel outer wall formed in said first piece in the thickness dimension and said channel floor formed adjacent and inside of said outer wall in the plane of said length and width dimensions, and first and second means projecting from the plane of said floor of said first piece and respectively spaced apart from said outer wall at the end of said length dimension of said channel to define part of said inner wall of said channel;
- said second molded package piece suitable for engaging with said first piece to form said channel top overlying said channel floor; and
- wherein said first projecting means comprises a plurality of lugs arranged in a circular configuration, and wherein said second projecting means comprises a plurality of lugs arranged in an oval configuration.
- 6. The package of claim 5, wherein said second molded package piece includes a depression for engaging the center of one of said projecting means, and further including means, located in said depression, for holding a needle.
- 7. The package of claim 6, further including an aperture in said channel adjacent said projecting means engaged by said depression for enabling a suture with a needle to exit said channel,
- whereby said needle may be retained in said needle holding means.
- 8. The package of claim 5, wherein said floor of said first piece extends across said channel between said first and second projecting means and said second piece extends above said first piece extension to define a cavity within said package between said first and second projecting means.
- 9. The package of claim 8, wherein a portion of said second piece defining the top of said cavity is cut away between said first and second projecting means,
- whereby a suture may be wound in said package channel and cavity around said first and second projecting means in a FIG.-8 pattern.
