Claims
- 1. A chromatograph comprising:
- an oven housing defining an oven cavity and a volume of cavity air therein,
- an oven heater selectably operable for heating said cavity air;
- an oven vent located in said oven housing for providing an exchange of cavity air and ambient air,
- an oven vent assembly associated with the oven vent and being selectably operable for controlling said exchange of cavity air and ambient air; and
- a computer for:
- a) determining one of a plurality of oven operating conditions, and
- b) in response to a determination of an inactive oven operating condition, controlling the operation of said oven vent assembly to effect an exchange of cavity air with ambient air.
- 2. The chromatograph of claim 1, further comprising an oven fan located adjacent said oven vent and being selectably operable under the control of said computer, and wherein in response to said determination of an inactive oven operating condition, the oven fan is activated to facilitate said exchange of cavity air with ambient air.
- 3. The chromatograph of claim 2, wherein the oven vent further comprises:
- an exhaust port and an intake port, said exhaust port and said intake port being located in said oven housing and extending therethrough so as to communicate between said cavity and ambient air,
- wherein said oven fan is selectably operable in response to the computer for effecting a positive pressure and a negative pressure at the exhaust port and intake port, respectively.
- 4. The chromatograph of claim 3, wherein said an oven vent assembly further comprises plural flaps positionable for opening and closing said intake port and said exhaust port, and means for positioning said plural flaps.
- 5. The chromatograph of claim 1, wherein in response to a determination of a transitional oven operating condition, the operation of the oven heater is withheld for the duration of a waiting period and the oven vent assembly is operated to effect an exchange of cavity air with ambient air during said waiting period.
- 6. The chromatograph of claim 5, further comprising an oven fan located adjacent said oven vent and being selectably operable under the control of said computer, and the oven fan is operated to effect said exchange of cavity air with ambient air during said waiting period.
- 7. The chromatograph of claim 6, wherein the oven vent further comprises:
- an exhaust port and an intake port, said exhaust port and said intake port being located in said oven housing and extending therethrough so as to communicate between said cavity and ambient air,
- wherein said oven fan is selectably operable in response to the computer for effecting a positive pressure and a negative pressure at the exhaust port and intake port, respectively.
- 8. The chromatograph of claim 7, wherein said an oven vent assembly further comprises a plurality of flaps positionable for opening and closing said intake and said exhaust port, and means for positioning said plurality of flaps.
- 9. The chromatograph of claim 1, further comprising a control panel for selecting one of said oven operating conditions.
- 10. A chromatograph comprising:
- an oven housing defining an oven cavity and a volume of cavity air therein,
- an oven heater selectably operable for heating said cavity air,
- an oven vent located in said oven housing for providing an exchange of cavity air and ambient air,
- an oven vent assembly located adjacent said oven vent and being selectably operable for controlling said exchange of cavity air and ambient air; and
- an oven fan located adjacent said oven vent and being selectably operable to facilitate said exchange of cavity air with ambient air,
- a computer for determining one of a plurality of oven operating conditions, and operating said oven heater, oven vent assembly, and said oven fan in response to said determination according to at least one of the following oven operating conditions:
- a) with respect to an inactive oven operating condition, controlling the operation of said oven heater and said oven vent assembly to effect an exchange of cavity air with ambient air; and
- b) with respect to a transitional oven operating condition, withholding the operation of the oven heater for the duration of a waiting period, and controlling the operation of said oven fan and said oven vent assembly to effect an exchange of cavity air with ambient air during said waiting period.
- 11. The chromatograph of claim 10, wherein the oven vent further comprises:
- an exhaust port and an intake port, said exhaust port and said intake port being located in said oven housing and extending therethrough so as to communicate between said cavity and ambient air,
- wherein said oven fan is selectably operable in response to the computer for effecting a positive pressure and a negative pressure at the exhaust port and intake port, respectively.
