Claims
- 1. A method of controlling average polymer chain length during the synthesis of a polymer from monomer reactants comprising combining with said monomer reactants a chain growth terminating oxa-organic sulfur compound having the structural formula ##STR13## wherein R is an alkyl or aryl group containing a halide, nitro, sulfide or ether substituent and R' is hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group containing a halide, nitro, sulfide or ether substituent.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said polymer is an acrylic polymer, a polyvinyl chloride polymer, a styrene-butadiene polymer or a neoprene polymer.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein R is --CH.sub.3 and R' is --H.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein R is --CH.sub.2 Cl and R' is --H.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein R is --CH.sub.2 -CH.sub.2 -CH.sub.2 -CH.sub.3 and R' is --H.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said polymer is an acrylic polymer, R is --CH.sub.3 and R' is --H.
