Claims
- 1. A catalyst composition consisting essentially of a mixture of oxides of
- (a) manganese,
- (b) phosphorus, and
- (c) an alkali metal wherein the atomic ratio of (a):(b):(c) is 1:0.03 to 0.25:0.06 to 0.30.
- 2. A catalyst according to claim 1 which additionally, comprises a refractory oxide support.
- 3. A catalyst according to claim 2 wherein said refractory oxide support is selected from the group consisting of activated alumina, magnesia and zinc aluminate; and wherein the atomic ratio of manganese to metal atoms in the support is within the range of about 0.6 to about 1.5.
- 4. A catalyst according to claim 3 wherein (c) is sodium.
- 5. A catalyst according to claim 4 wherein said refractory oxide support is activated alumina.
- 6. A catalyst according to claim 3 wherein (c) is sodium and wherein the atomic ratio of (a):(b):(c) is 1:0.05 to 0.20:0.10 to 0.30.
