Claims
- 1. A method of protecting sorghum and rice crops from the phytotoxic action of 1,3,5-triazine or haloacetanilide herbicides, which comprises adding to the herbicide or applying to the locus of the crops, as antidote, a compound of the formula ##STR79## wherein Ar is 1-naphthyl or ##STR80## in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen, and R.sub.2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, and R.sub.8 is phthalimido or tetrahydrophthalimido, in a plant-protecting amount.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 in which, in the compound,
- Ar is 1-naphthyl, phenyl or 4-chlorophenyl, and R.sub.8 is phthalimido.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 in which the herbicide is N-(1-methyl-2-methoxyethyl)-N-chloroacetyl-2-ethyl-6-methylaniline, 2,4-bis(isopropylamino)-6-methylthio-s-triazine, or 2-ethylamino-4-(1,2-dimethyl-n-propylamino)-6-methylthio-s-triazine.
- 4. A method according to claim 2 in which the compound is phenylacetonitrile-oxime-phthalimidomethyl ether.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 in which the herbicide is 2-ethylamino-4-(1,2-dimethyl-n-propylamino)-6-methylthio-s-triazine and the plant is rice.
- 6. A method according to claim 4 in which the herbicide is N-(1-methyl-2-methoxyethyl)-N-chloroacetyl-2-ethyl-6-methyl-aniline and the plant is rice.
- 7. A method according to claim 2 in which the compound is 4-chlorophenylacetonitrile-oxime-phthalamidomethyl ether.
- 8. A method according to claim 7 in which the herbicide is 2,4-bis(isopropylamino)-6-methylthio-s-triazine and the plant is sorghum.
