Claims
- 1. A process for preparing a compound having the general formula ##STR8## wherein Ar is a monovalent aromatic radical selected from the group consisting of ##STR9## Ar' is a divalent aromatic radical selected from the group consisting of ##STR10## and R is a monovalent aromatic radical selected from the group consisting of ##STR11## which comprises reacting an aromatic bis-benzil having the general formula ##STR12## wherein Ar and Ar' are as described above, with a benzylketone having the general formula ##STR13## wherein R is as described above, in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide under reflux reaction conditions in an alcohol reaction medium.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the amount of said alkali metal hydroxide ranges from about 0.1 to 0.75 mole per mole of said aromatic bisbenzil.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein said reaction medium is ethanol.
