Claims
- 1. A method of making an oxygen absorbing product comprising the steps of:
- (a) dispersing at least 10.0 weight percent of an oxygen absorbent in an emulsion to form an oxygen absorbing composition, wherein said oxygen absorbent is a mixture of a metal and a salt, and wherein said salt is at a concentration range of between 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent of said metal; and
- (b) transferring said oxygen absorbing composition onto a substrate.
- 2. An oxygen absorbing product produced by the method of claim 1.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said emulsion is an alginate gel in water emulsion.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said emulsion is a xanthan gum in water emulsion.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said emulsion is a microcrystalline cellulose in water emulsion.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said emulsion is an acrylic polymer in water emulsion.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said emulsion is a polyvinyl acetate in water emulsion.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said emulsion is a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer in water emulsion.
- 9. The method of claim 1 said metal is selected from the group consisting of iron, aluminum, copper, zinc, titanium, magnesium, tin, sodium, and manganese, and said salt is selected from the group consisting of sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, potassium chloride, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, calcium chloride, sodium phosphate, calcium phosphate, and magnesium chloride.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein said oxygen absorbing composition comprises:
- from 20 to 70 weight percent of a sodium alginate gel in water emulsion; and
- from 30 to 80 weight percent iron dispersed in said emulsion;
- wherein said emulsion contains 0.1 to 10 weight percent of a surfactant, and distilled water, and wherein said iron contains 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent sodium chloride.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein said oxygen absorbing composition comprises:
- from 20 to 85 weight percent of a xanthan gum in water and alcohol emulsion; and
- from 15 to 80 weight percent of iron dispersed in said emulsion;
- wherein said iron contains 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent sodium chloride.
- 12. The method of claim 1 wherein said oxygen absorbing composition comprises:
- from 20 to 90 weight percent of a microcrystalline cellulose in water and alcohol emulsion; and
- from 10 to 80 weight percent of iron dispersed in said emulsion;
- wherein said emulsion contains 0.1 to 4.0 weight percent xanthan gum, and wherein said iron contains 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent sodium chloride.
- 13. The method of claim 1 wherein said oxygen absorbing composition comprises:
- from 15 to 90 weight percent of an acrylic polymer emulsion; and
- from 10 to 85 weight percent of iron dispersed in said emulsion;
- wherein said iron contains 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent sodium chloride.
- 14. The method of claim 1 wherein said oxygen absorbing composition comprises:
- from 15 to 90 weight percent of a polyvinyl acetate emulsion; and
- from 10 to 85 weight percent of iron dispersed in said emulsion;
- wherein said iron contains 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent sodium chloride.
- 15. The method of claim 1 wherein said oxygen absorbing composition comprises:
- from 15 to 90 weight percent of a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsion; and
- from 10 to 85 weight percent of iron dispersed in said emulsion;
- wherein said iron contains 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent sodium chloride.
