Claims
- 1. A cardiac pacemaker comprising:
- pulse generator means for generating stimulating pulses at a controlled frequency; and
- lead means for implantation into the vascular system in contact with the blood stream of the patient, said lead means comprising a two wavelength reflectance oximeter including a first light source for generating light at a first frequency, a second light source for generating light at a second frequency, and a light responsive means responsive to light generated by said first and second light sources as reflected by said blood stream, said oximeter requiring a power input for operation and including means for generating an information signal indicative of the amount of said light from both said first and second light sources reflected by said blood stream;
- said lead means further comprising means for carrying power to said oximeter and for carrying said information signal from said oximeter, said conductor means consisting of only two mutually insulated electrical conductors; and
- wherein said pulse generator means provides a power input to said oximeter and includes means responsive to said information signal from said oximeter for varying said controlled frequency of said stimulating pulses.
- 2. The pacemaker as described in claim 1, wherein said lead means further comprises a stimulation electrode, coupled to one of said two mutually insulated electrical conductors.
- 3. A pacemaker according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein said means for generating said information signal comprises modulation means for modulating said power to said oximeter in accordance with the amount of said light from said first and second light sources reflected by said blood stream and wherein said responsive means responds to the modulation of said power for varying said controlled frequency of said stimulation pulses.
