Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to a package which is flexible and includes flexible edge protection.

[0003] Packages for rolls are well known in the art. U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,850,918 and 5,890,591 disclose packages. These patents disclose packages which utilize axial wraps and radial wraps. An axial wrap, for the purpose of this patent application, includes a layer of film material which is wrapped parallel to the core or the longitudinal center line of the roll. In some situations, a radial wrap is also used. For the purposes of this patent application, a radial wrap is a film layer which is wrapped in a direction perpendicular to the core or the longitudinal centerline of the roll. In some embodiments, the radial wrap is in a direction generally perpendicular to the longitudinal centerline. A spiral wrap is an example of this type of a radial wrap.

[0004] The prior art patents also disclose the use of a header or disk positioned adjacent the ends of the rolls. Often, the header is manufactured from protective cardboard materials.

[0005] U.S. Pat. No. 5,346,067 discloses a package for an object. The package includes a core which receives rectangular shaped end pieces or end pieces that have a square cross section.
