Claims
- 1. A packaging assembly, comprising:a container having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer surface; an item disposed in the container and having at least a portion extending a distance beyond the upper end of the container; a support member having an upper support surface, a lower surface, and a periphery, the lower end of the container disposed on the upper support surface of the support member in a non-connected relationship with respect to the support member and with the container oriented in a substantially upright position; a sheet extension extending generally about the item and having a first end portion secured to the upper end of the container; and a sheet of material wrapped and secured about the support member and the container such that the support member and the container are enclosed within and covered by the sheet of material and the sheet extension and the container is supported in its upright position so as to prevent the container and the item from toppling during transport.
- 2. The packaging assembly of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the sheet extension is gathered to form one of a gathered portion about the sheet of material, a gathered portion about the container, a gathered portion a distance above the container and combinations thereof.
- 3. The packaging assembly of claim 2, wherein the sheet extension further comprises bonding means for securing the gathered portion of the sheet extension in the gathered position.
- 4. The packaging assembly of claim 3, wherein the bonding means is disposed on one of the portion of the container disposed substantially adjacent the gathered portion of the sheet extension, the gathered portion of the sheet extension, and combinations thereof for securing the gathered portion of the sheet extension in the gathered position.
- 5. The packaging assembly of claim 3, wherein the bonding means is selected from the group of cohesives, adhesives, and combinations thereof.
- 6. The packaging assembly of claim 2, wherein the packaging assembly further comprises securing means for securing the gathered portion of the sheet extension in the gathered position.
- 7. The packaging assembly of claim 6, wherein the securing means is disposed about one of the sheet extension, the sheet of material, the container, and combinations thereof for securing the gathered portion of the sheet extension in the gathered position.
- 8. The packaging assembly of claim 6, wherein the securing means is selected from the group consisting of a tie, a band, a ribbon, or combinations thereof.
- 9. The packaging assembly of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the sheet extension is crimped to form a one of a crimped portion about the sheet of material, a crimped portion about the container, a crimped portion a distance above the container, and combinations thereof.
- 10. The packaging assembly of claim 9, wherein the sheet extension further comprises bonding means for securing the crimped portion of the sheet extension in the crimped position.
- 11. The packaging assembly of claim 10, wherein the bonding means is disposed on one of the portion of the container disposed substantially adjacent the crimped portion of the sheet extension, the crimped portion of the sheet extension, and combinations thereof for securing the crimped portion of the sheet extension in the crimped position.
- 12. The packaging assembly of claim 10, wherein the bonding means is selected from the group of cohesives, adhesives, and combinations thereof.
- 13. The packaging assembly of claim 9, wherein the packaging assembly further comprises securing means for securing the crimped portion of the sheet extension in the crimped position.
- 14. The packaging assembly of claim 13, wherein the securing means is disposed on about one of the sheet extension, the sheet of material, and combinations thereof for securing the crimped portion of the sheet extension in the crimped position.
- 15. The packaging assembly of claim 14, wherein the securing means is selected from the group consisting of a tie, a band, a ribbon, or combinations thereof.
- 16. The packaging assembly of claim 1, further comprising bonding means for securing one of the sheet extension to the container, the sheet extension to the sheet of material, and combinations thereof.
- 17. The packaging assembly of claim 16, wherein the bonding means is disposed on one of the sheet extension, the container, and combinations thereof for securing the sheet extension to the container.
- 18. The packaging assembly of claim 16, wherein the bonding means is disposed on one of the sheet extension, the sheet of material, and combinations thereof for securing the sheet extension to the sheet of material.
- 19. The packaging assembly of claim 16, wherein the bonding means is selected from the group of cohesives, adhesives, and combinations thereof.
- 20. The packaging assembly claim 1, further comprising securing means for securing one of at least a portion of the sheet extension about the container, at least a portion of the sheet extension about the sheet of material, at least a portion of the sheet extension a distance above the container, and combinations thereof.
- 21. The packaging assembly of claim 20, wherein the securing means is disposed about one of at least a portion of the sheet extension, at least a portion of the sheet of material, and combinations thereof for securing at least a portion of the sheet extension about the sheet of material.
- 22. The packaging assembly of claim 20, wherein the securing means is disposed about one of at least a portion of the sheet extension, at least a portion of the sheet of material, and combinations thereof for securing at least a portion of the sheet extension about the sheet of material.
- 23. The packaging assembly of claim 20, wherein the securing means is disposed about at least a portion of the sheet extension for securing at least a portion of the sheet extension a distance above the container.
- 24. The packaging assembly of claim 20, wherein the securing means is selected from the group consisting of a tie, a band, a ribbon, or combinations thereof.
- 25. A packaging assembly, comprising:a container having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer surface; a floral grouping disposed in the container and having at least a portion extending a distance beyond the upper end of the container; a support member having an upper support surface, a lower surface, and a periphery, the lower end of the container disposed on the upper support surface of the support member in a non-connected relationship with respect to the support member and with the container oriented in a substantially upright position; a sheet extension extending generally about the floral grouping and having a first end portion secured to the upper end of the container; and a sheet of material wrapped and secured about the support member and the container such that the support member and the container are enclosed within and covered by the sheet of material and the sheet extension and the container is supported in its upright position so as to prevent the container and the floral grouping from toppling during transport.
