Claims
- 1. A packaging device comprising:a container including an inside wall and a first opening; support means mounted about said first opening, said inside wall and said support means defining a first chamber adjacent to said first opening for packaging therein a disc-shaped media and a second chamber remote from said first opening for packaging therein said materials other than said disc-shaped media; said support means including shelf means adapted to engage one side of said disc-shaped media about the outer perimeter of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement of said disc-shaped media in a first direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media and toward said shelf means and said second chamber, wherein said shelf means is co-planar with said disc-shaped media; means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a direction parallel to the plane of said disc-shaped media; means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media, said second direction being opposite said first direction and away from said shelf means; and means for closing said first opening.
- 2. The device of claim 1, wherein said shelf means is a continuous annular shelf.
- 3. The device of claim 2, wherein said annular shelf is removable.
- 4. The device of claim 2, wherein the opening of said annular shelf is sized to allow said other materials to be inserted into and removed from said second chamber while said annular shelf is in place.
- 5. The device of claim 4, wherein said annular shelf is permanently affixed within said device.
- 6. The device of claim 2, further comprising sealing means for closing the opening in said annular shelf and thereby seal said second chamber.
- 7. The device of claim 1, wherein said container includes a rim defining said first opening, wherein said shelf means is suspended from said rim.
- 8. The device of claim 1, wherein said shelf means consists of a planar disc-shaped member adapted for also closing said second chamber.
- 9. The device of claim 1, further including a protective element between said shelf means and said disc-shaped media.
- 10. The device of claim 1, wherein said means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a direction parallel to the plane of said disc-shaped media is a portion of said inside wall of said first chamber of said container.
- 11. The device of claim 1, wherein said means for closing and said means for preventing movement in said second direction is a lid adapted to be removably attached to said container.
- 12. The device of claim 11, further including a removable sealing means adapted to secure said lid to said container.
- 13. A device for packaging at least one disc-shaped media and other materials comprising:a container including an inside wall, a first opening and a rim defining said first opening; said inside wall preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a direction parallel to the plane of said disc-shaped media; support means suspended from said rim about said first opening, said inside wall and said support means defining a first chamber adjacent to said first opening for packaging therein said disc-shaped media and a second chamber remote from said first opening for packaging therein said other materials; said support means comprising shelf means adapted to engage a first side of said disc-shaped media about the outer perimeter of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement of said disc-shaped media in a first direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media, wherein said shelf means is co-planar with said disc-shaped media; a protective element mounted adjacent to said shelf means, wherein said protective element is mounted on the same side of said shelf means as said disc-shaped media and between said disc-shaped media and said shelf means; and a lid for closing said first opening and for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media, said second direction being opposite said first direction.
- 14. The device of claim 13, wherein said shelf means comprises an annular shelf and said protective element spans the opening of said annular shelf.
- 15. The device of claim 13, wherein said protective element is mounted on the side of said shelf means opposite of said disc-shaped media and out of contact with said disc-shaped media.
- 16. The device of claim 13, wherein said support means comprises a removable plug which closes said second chamber when suspended from said rim.
- 17. The device of claim 16, further including a protective element situated adjacent to said plug.
- 18. A device for packaging at least one disc-shaped media and other materials comprising:a container including an inside wall and a first opening; support means mounted about said first opening, said inside wall and said support means defining a first chamber adjacent to and on one side of said support means and a second chamber adjacent to and on the opposite side of said support means; said support means including shelf means adapted to engage the outer perimeter of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in a first direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media, wherein said shelf means is co-planar with said disc-shaped media; abutment means adapted to engage the edge of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in the plane of said disc-shaped media; means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to said disc-shaped media, said second direction being opposite said first direction; and means for closing said first opening.
- 19. The device of claim 18, wherein said shelf means is a continuous annular shelf.
- 20. The device of claim 19, wherein said container includes a rim defining said first opening, wherein said continuous annular shelf is suspended from said rim.
- 21. The device of claim 20, wherein said continuous annular shelf further includes an upstanding surface, wherein said upstanding surface serves as said abutment means.
- 22. The device of claim 19, wherein said continuous annular shelf extends from said inside wall.
- 23. The device of claim 18, wherein said shelf means comprises at least three co-planar projections extending from said inside wall.
- 24. The device of claim 23, wherein said co-planar projections further include upstanding surfaces, wherein said upstanding surfaces serve as said abutment means.
- 25. The device of claim 18, wherein said shelf means comprises a planar disc for closing and separating said first chamber from said second chamber.
- 26. The device of claim 18, further including a protective element between said shelf means and said disc-shaped media.
- 27. The device of claim 18, wherein said disc-shaped media is enclosed within a protective casing.
- 28. The device of claim 18, wherein said abutment means comprises a portion of said inside wall adjacent to said edge of said disc-shaped media.
- 29. The device of claim 18, wherein said abutment means comprises at least one projection extending from said inside wall.
- 30. The device of claim 18, wherein said means for closing is a lid adapted to be removably attached to said container.
- 31. The device of claim 30, wherein said lid further serves as said means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to said disc-shaped media.
- 32. The device of claim 30, further including a removable seal adapted to secure said lid to said container.
- 33. A device for packaging at least one disc-shaped media and other materials comprising:a container including an inside wall and a first opening; support means mounted about said first opening, said inside wall and said support means defining a first chamber adjacent to and on one side of said support means and a second chamber adjacent to and on the opposite side of said support means; said support means includes a continuous annular shelf adapted to engage the outer perimeter of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in a first direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media, wherein said shelf is co-planar with said disc-shaped media; abutment means adapted to engage the edge of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in the plane of said disc-shaped media; and a removable lid for closing said first opening, said lid further preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to said disc-shaped media, said second direction being opposite said first direction.
- 34. The device of claim 33, further including a protective element spanning the opening of said annular shelf.
- 35. The device of claim 34, wherein said protective element further includes means for sealing said second chamber from said first chamber.
- 36. A method for packaging disc-shaped media together with other material, said method comprising the steps of:providing a device for packaging at least one disc-shaped media and other materials comprising: a container including an inside wall and a first opening; support means mounted about said first opening, said inside wall and said support means defining a first chamber adjacent to and on one side of said support means and a second chamber adjacent to and on the opposite side of said support means; said support means includes a continuous annular shelf adapted to engage the outer perimeter of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in a first direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media; abutment means adapted to engage the edge of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in the plane of said disc-shaped media; and a removable lid for closing said first opening, said lid further preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to said disc-shaped media, said second direction being opposite said first direction; inserting said other material into said second chamber through said first opening and through the opening of said annular shelf; inserting said disc-shaped media into said container through said first opening, onto said support means such that the perimeter of said disc-shaped media is supported by said continuous annular shelf and the edge of said disc-shaped media is bounded by said abutment means; attaching said lid to said container.
- 37. The method of claim 36, further including the step of sealing said other material in said second internal chamber after insertion.
- 38. The method of claim 36, further including the step of securing said lid to said container by means of a removable seal.
- 39. A method for packaging disc-shaped media together with other material, said method comprising the steps of:providing a device for packaging at least one disc-shaped media and other materials comprising: a container including an inside wall and a first opening; support means removably mounted about said first opening, said inside wall and said support means defining a first chamber on one side of said support means adjacent to said first opening for packaging therein said disc-shaped media and a second chamber remote from said first opening on the opposite side of said support means for packaging therein said other materials, said support means including an annular shelf adapted to engage the outer perimeter of said disc-shaped media so as to prevent movement in a first direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media; means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a direction parallel to the plane of said disc-shaped media; means for preventing movement of said disc-shaped media in a second direction perpendicular to the plane of said disc-shaped media, said second direction being opposite said first direction; and a lid for closing said first opening; inserting said other material through said first opening and said first chamber and through the opening in said annular shelf into said second chamber; inserting said disc-shaped media through said first opening into said first chamber onto said support means such that the perimeter of said disc-shaped media is supported by said annular shelf; and attaching said lid to said container.
- 40. The method of claim 39, further including the step of inserting a protective element through said first opening onto said support means before said disc-shaped media is inserted into said device to thereby cover the opening of said annular shelf.
- 41. The method of claim 40, further including the step of sealingly securing said protective element to said annular shelf.
- 42. The method of claim 39, further including the step of securing said lid to said container by means of a removable seal.
- 43. The method of claim 39, wherein said support means in said device is removable, further including the step of inserting said support means through said first opening and removably mounting said support means in said device after the step of inserting said other material and before the step of inserting said disc-shaped media.
