Claims
- 1. A method for packaging a product comprising heat sealing a film so as to form a package, said film comprising
- a first outer layer comprising styrene-butadiene copolymer and
- a second layer comprising a single site catalyst polyethylene, wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of about 150-450 or greater up to about 1000 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr. and can be sealed with resistance seals or on a form, fill, and seal machine.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the product requires oxygen.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein said product comprises a leafy vegetable.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein said leafy vegetable is lettuce or cabbage.
- 5. A method of preserving a food product comprising storing the food product in a package formed by heat sealing a film, said film comprising
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the food product is selected from the group consisting of cabbage and lettuce.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein said cabbage is in the form of cole slaw mix.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of from about 260 to about 400 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of about 300 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of from about 350 to about 360 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of about 400 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 12. The method of claim 1 wherein the first and second layers of said film are in intimate contact with each other.
- 13. The method of claim 1 wherein the first and second layers of said film are coextruded.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein said first and second layers are in intimate contact with each other.
- 15. The method of claim 1 wherein said film further comprises a third layer comprising single site catalyst polyethylene, said second layer being disposed between said first and third layers.
- 16. The method of claim 15 wherein said first and second layers are coextruded and said third layer is adhesively laminated to said second layer.
- 17. The film of claim 16 further comprising printing on said second or third layer.
- 18. The method of claim 5 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of from about 260 to about 400 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 19. The method of claim 5 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of about 300 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 20. The method of claim 5 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of from about 350 to about 360 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 21. The method of claim 5 wherein said film has an oxygen transmission rate of about 400 cc/100 in.sup.2 /24 hr.
- 22. The method of claim 5 wherein the first and second layers of said film are in intimate contact with each other.
- 23. The method of claim 5 wherein the first and second layers of said film are coextruded.
- 24. The method of claim 23 wherein said first and second layers are in intimate contact with each other.
- 25. The method of claim 5 wherein said film further comprises a third layer comprising single site catalyst polyethylene, said second layer being disposed between said first and third layers.
- 26. The method of claim 25 wherein said first and second layers are coextruded and said third layer is adhesively laminated to said second layer.
- 27. The film of claim 26 further comprising printing on said second or third layer.
