The present invention relates to a packaging for the storage and transport of textile or non-woven webs wound in rolls, the webs each being wound around a core and the roll as a narrow roll having a diameter equivalent to a multiple of the width of the wound web.
Web-shaped textile and non-woven products are often packaged in narrow rolls into palletless stacks of rolls. The upper and lower end face of the stack is thereby protected by cardboard or by a plastic sheet, and the stack is then wrapped in stretch film. This kind of package is inexpensive and saves resources.
When wound into a roll, product webs with different thicknesses across the width of the web exhibit clearly visible projecting rings of material, called “piston rings”. If the “piston rings” are located in the middle, this has the result that the outer sides of the roll are wound very loosely and therefore can easily be compressed. When rolls with soft edges are stacked one above the other and are transported as packaged in this way, the edges are compressed and the textile or non-woven web develops creases and folds.
An aspect of the present invention is to improve a packaging of the kind mentioned above so that the soft outer sides of the rolls are not loaded during the transport and the storage of the rolls so that damage to the wound web is avoided.
In an embodiment, the present invention provides a packaging for a storage and a transport of a plurality of textile or non-woven strips which are wound in respective rolls, wherein, each of the plurality of textile or non-woven strips are wound around a core, and each of the rolls has a diameter which is equivalent to a multiple of a width of the plurality of textile or non-woven strips when wound in a roll. The packaging includes connectors having a sleeve-shape or a round-profile-shape. The cores are arranged coaxially on top of each other and are connected with each other via the connectors which are inserted into respective cavities of the cores neighboring each other for stacking two or more of the rolls so that all of the cores form a stable core shaft and so that the rolls neighboring each other have a distance between their respective lateral faces.

The present invention provides that, for stacking two or more rolls, the neighboring cores arranged coaxially on top of each other are connected with each other by sleeve-shaped or round-profile-shaped connectors which are inserted into the cavities of both cores so that all cores form a stable core shaft and neighboring rolls have a distance between their lateral faces.
The connectors provide that the rolls do not contact one another and do not lie on top of one another so that, as a result of this distance between the rolls, the wound webs are not loaded during their transport and are not deformed. This creates compact stable packaging units (for example, of 5 rolls with a width of 20 cm) which have small external dimensions and which allows a safe and simple transport.
A safe, small and constant distance between the rolls is provided when the connectors carry on their outside a coaxial spacer ring which is situated between the end faces of neighboring cores. The connectors can alternatively or additionally each carry a spacer disc to which the longitudinal axis of the connector is in perpendicular arrangement and which lies between the lateral faces of any two rolls and therefore prevents the lateral faces of two neighboring rolls from touching each other.
The connectors can, for example, be made of cardboard or plastic.
The spacer discs are further circular discs coaxial with the longitudinal axis. It is also proposed that the axial length of the connectors be equivalent to or smaller than the axial length of the winding cores.
Embodiments of the present invention are illustrated schematically in the drawings and are described in greater detail below.
Narrow strips or webs 1 of a textile, in particular a fiber structure such as a non-woven material such as a fleece, in particular for hygienic purposes, are wound on a winding core 2 made of cardboard in order to form a narrow roll 3 which has a diameter D that is equivalent to a multiple of the width B of the strip 1. In order to store several of these rolls 3 with a vertical core or winding axis 4 on top of one another, the two core ends of two neighboring winding cores 2 are connected with each other by a connector 5 that consists of a round profile or a connecting sleeve, the upper end of which is inserted into the cavity of the bottom end of the upper winding core 2 and the bottom end of which is inserted into the cavity of the upper end of the lower winding core 2, after which all winding cores 2 of all rolls 3 form a stable shaft of the entire transported goods.
Each connector 5 exhibits on its outside a molded spacer disc 7 in the form of a circular flange or a circular disc coaxial with the winding axis 4, which after the assembly of two or more rolls 3 on top of one another is situated between any two rolls 3, and hence provides that the lateral faces 8 of two neighboring rolls 3 do not lie on top of each other, but are arranged at a narrow distance from each other which is equal to the thickness of the spacer disc 7.
