Claims
- 1. A method of filtering packet data for an anonymous user device in a packet data network communication system, the method comprising the steps of:
defining a special context information element containing special context information; sending the special context information element in an activate packet data protocol (PDP) context request to a network to initiate a call from an anonymous user device; receiving the activate PDP context request and the special context information element; configuring the data packets so that only the special context is allowed; assigning an interim identity and mapping an interim IP address to the user device; defining permissible routing identities per the special context; and routing the data packets between only those permissible routing identities from the defining step.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the special context is an emergency call context and the special context information element includes an emergency traffic flag.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving step includes receiving the activate PDP context request along with the special context information element by a Gateway GPRS Service Node (GGSN) of the packet data network.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the sending step includes sending the special context information element in protocol configuration options.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the sending step includes sending the special context information element in PDP address information element.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the defining step permits emergency call centers as the only permissible routing identities.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the list of interim IP addresses for assigning to anonymous user devices in the assigning step is controlled by an emergency packet data network associated with each packet data network.
- 8. A method of filtering packet data for an anonymous user device in a packet data network communication system, the method comprising the steps of:
defining an emergency context information element containing emergency context information; sending the emergency context information element in an activate packet data protocol (PDP) context request to a network to initiate a call from an anonymous user device without a valid identity; receiving the activate PDP context request and the emergency context information element; detecting a missing valid identity of the user device; assigning an interim identity and mapping an interim IP address to the user device; configuring the data packets so that only the emergency context is allowed; routing the call data packets along with the associated interim IP address to an known IP address of an emergency calling center; and restricting access to data packets addressed to the assigned interim IP address of the anonymous user device that are not from the known IP address of the emergency calling center.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the restricting step can include one or more of the group of: redirecting the restricted data packets of the restricting step for reviewing by a third party, blocking access to data packets addressed to the assigned interim IP address of the user device that are not from the known IP address of the emergency calling center, and blocking data packets from the user device that do not have an emergency context.
- 10. The method of claim 8, wherein the receiving step includes receiving the activate PDP context request along with the special context information element by a Gateway GPRS Service Node (GGSN) of the packet data network.
- 11. The method of claim 8, wherein the sending step includes sending the special context information element in protocol configuration options of an activate PDP context request message.
- 12. The method of claim 8, wherein the list of interim IP addresses for assigning to anonymous user devices in the assigning step is controlled by an emergency packet data network associated with each packet data network.
- 13. A communication system to filter packet data for an anonymous user device in a packet data network, the communication system comprising:
a user device capable of anonymously accessing a packet data network in the absence of an identity, the user device capable of generating an equipment identity and sending an emergency context information element in an activate packet data protocol (PDP) context request to a network to initiate a call; a packet data network operable to provide communications between the anonymous user device with an assigned IP address and an emergency calling center with a known IP address, the packet data network operable to detect a missing identity of the user device; an emergency packet data network coupled to the packet data network, wherein upon notification from the packet data network that a user device has no valid identity and receiving the activate PDP context request and the emergency context information element, the emergency packet data network is operable to assign an interim IP address to the user device, configure the data packets so that only the emergency context is allowed, and route the call packets with the associated interim IP address to the emergency calling center.
- 14. The system of claim 13, wherein the emergency packet data network can restrict access of data packets addressed to and from the assigned interim IP address of the anonymous user device that are not between the known IP address of the emergency calling center.
- 15. The system of claim 14, wherein the emergency packet data network can take actions including one or more of the group of: redirect restricted data packets for review by a third party, block access to data packets addressed to the assigned interim IP address of the user device that are not from the known IP address of the emergency calling center, and block data packets from the user device that do not have an emergency context.
- 16. The system of claim 13, wherein the user device can send the special context information element in protocol configuration options of an activate PDP context request message.
- 17. The system of claim 13, wherein the emergency packet data network is contained within a Gateway GPRS Service Node (GGSN) of their associated packet data network.
