- 6. The airbag device of claim 1, wherein said support plate supports said membrane switch.
- 7. The air bag assembly of claim 1, wherein said switch body is spaced away from said door portion.
- 8. An air bag cover comprising:
- a cover member constructed from a thermoplastic elastomer, said cover member having (a) a tear-line to be ruptured at the expansion of an air bag, said tear-line surrounding and defining a door portion and (b) side walls which extend from a peripheral edge of said door portion and being fixed to a base member;
- a support plate fixed to an inside of the door portion;
- a gap regulating rim provided at least on one of the cover member and the support plate, and regulating a clearance space between said support plate and said door portion, said rim being segmented to provide an opening therethrough; and
- a membrane switch comprising a switch body arranged in the clearance space, and conduction members connected electrically to the switch body and passing through the opening.
- 9. An air bag cover according to claim 8, wherein said support plate has a plurality of through holes, and the door portion has a plurality of mounting ribs penetrating the through holes and holding the support plate.
- 10. An air bag cover according to claim 9, wherein the mounting ribs are provided close to or in continuation to a gap regulating rim provided on the door portion.
- 11. An air bag cover according to claim 9, wherein the through hole is provided close to or in continuation to the gap regulating brim provided on the support plate.
- 12. An air bag cover according to claim 9, wherein said support plate is mounted to the door portion by heat staking said mounting ribs.
- 13. The airbag device of claim 8, wherein said cover member has a curved surface and said support plate has a substantially planar shape and said space is defined between said curved surface of said cover member and said support plate.
- 14. The airbag device of claim 8, wherein said membrane switch is supported by said support plate.
- 15. The air bag assembly of claim 14, wherein said membrane switch is mounted on a side of said support plate facing an interior side of said door.
- 16. An airbag cover for a steering wheel comprising:
- a thermoplastic elastomer cover member having a tear line and a door portion defined by said tear line;
- said door portion being openable by an inflating air bag;
- a support plate of substantially planar shape which is fixed to an interior side of said door portion, one of said door portion and said support plate having a separated space regulating rim member thereby creating a space between said support plate and said door portion; and
- a membrane switch of substantially planar shape disposed in said space.
- 17. The airbag device of claim 16, wherein said support plate is fixed to said door portion at the peripheral edge of said door portion.
- 18. An air bag device comprising:
- a cover member, said cover member having (a) a pair of opposing side walls, each of said side wall having a first groove opening at an inner side face and a second groove opening at an under end face of said sidewall, and (b) an upper wall having a tear-line defining a door portion;
- an inflater for exhausting gas;
- an air bag being inflated by gas exhausted from the inflater;
- a housing enclosing said air bag connected to said inflater, said housing having opposing peripheral edges inserted in the first grooves;
- a holder assembly inserted in and spanning between the second grooves;
- a support plate fixed to the door portion of the upper wall, said door portion and said support plate having a space regulating brim member thereby providing a first space between said support plate and said door portion;
- a switch body disposed in said first space, said switch body in the form of a membrane switch; and
- a plurality of projections extending inwardly from said cover member toward said membrane switch and defining a second space between said plurality of projections and said membrane switch.
