FIG. 1 shows a top down perspective view of an embodiment of the padded prayer mat.

FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the padded prayer mat.

FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the padded prayer mat in a folded configuration.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the padded prayer mat. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a top down view of an embodiment of the padded prayer mat. The padded prayer mat 10 comprises an elongated mat 11. The elongated mat 11 defines a first end 12. The first end 12 is disposed oppositely a second end 13, such that the body of the elongated mat 11 is defined therebetween. The elongated mat 11 is made of any suitable material for providing a kneeling surface for a user. In one embodiment, the elongated mat 11 is made of a flexible material, such that the elongated mat 11 is easy and convenient to move. In another embodiment, the elongated mat 11 is made of a non-porous material, such as to prevent dust and debris from penetrating the inside of the elongated mat 11.

A first fastener 14 is disposed on the first end 12 of the elongated mat 11. A second fastener 15 is disposed on the second end 13 of the elongated mat 11. The first fastener 14 and the second fastener 15 are configured to hold the padded prayer mat 10 in a folded configuration when engaged together. In one embodiment, the first fastener 14 and the second fastener 15 define a hook and loop fastener. However, in other embodiments, any type of fastener, such as a snap clasp fastener or a magnetic fastener, may be used.

A plurality of pockets 16 are disposed on the elongated mat 11. Each pocket of the plurality of pockets 16 defines an interior cavity therein. Each interior cavity is dimensioned to receive a pad of a plurality of pads. The number of pockets of the plurality of pockets 16 is equal to the number of pads of the plurality of pads. In the illustrated embodiment, the plurality of pockets 16 are disposed at a portion of the elongated mat 11 corresponding to a pair of knees of a user. As such, padding material or other padding items placed in the plurality of pockets will provide comfort to the knees of the user. In another embodiment, a length on a first side of the plurality of pockets 16 is less than a length on a second side of the plurality of pockets 16, as such the elongated mat is rectangular and provides sufficient room for the user to pray, genuflect or otherwise utilize the mat. In yet another embodiment, the plurality of pockets 16 are centrally disposed on the elongated mat 11, such that the user will have ample room on each side of the plurality of pockets 16.

Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the padded prayer mat. In the illustrated embodiment, the pads of the plurality of pads 17 are tubular. As such, the plurality of pads 17 are easily insertable and removable from the plurality of pockets 16. In the illustrated embodiment, each pocket of the plurality of pockets 16 is accessible via an opening 20 disposed on a side edge of the elongated mat 11. Furthermore, in the illustrated embodiment, each pocket of the plurality of pockets 16 is securable in a closed position via a pocket fastener 19. The pocket fasteners 19 prevent the plurality of pads 17 from exiting the plurality of pockets 16 while the padded prayer mat is in use. In one embodiment, each pad of the plurality of pads 17 is made of a memory foam material, such as to further enhance the comfort of the padded prayer mat for the user.

In an alternate embodiment, a handle 18 is disposed on at least one of the first end 12 of the elongated mat 11 and the second end 13 of the elongated mat. In the illustrated embodiment, each of the first end 12 of the elongated mat and the second end 13 of the elongated mat 11 comprise a handle 18, such that each end is manipulatable via the corresponding handle 18. The handle 18 further provides convenience to the user when placing the padded prayer mat into a folded configuration (as illustrated in FIG. 3).

In some embodiments, an indicium is disposed on a top surface of the elongated mat. The indicium may be of any suitable orientation or design such as desired by the user. For example, the indicium may comprise a religious symbol, such as to notify other individuals of the nature of the padded prayer mat or to enhance the user's use of the padded prayer mat.

Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the padded prayer mat in a folded configuration. The folded configuration is defined wherein the padded prayer mat is rolled over itself, such that the plurality of pockets 16 and the plurality of pads 17 are internally disposed within the roll. In addition, to prevent dirt or debris from attaching to the padded prayer mat, the folded configuration allows for enhanced portability of the padded prayer mat.

In the illustrated embodiment, the padded prayer mat comprises a non-slip surface 22 disposed on a bottom surface of the elongated mat 11. As such, use of the padded prayer mat is enhanced when placed upon a smooth or slippery surface. The non-slip surface 22 is defined by any material having a frictional coefficient greater than one. In one embodiment, the non-slip surface 22 is a rubberized material.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in various embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
