The present invention relates to a padded prayer mat. Specifically, the present invention recites a padded prayer mat having a plurality of pockets dimensioned to receive a plurality of pads therein.
Prayer is an important aspect of many peoples' spiritual lives. During prayer, many individuals kneel upon a mat or other surface. However, when many individuals kneel upon a mat for an extended period of time or at multiple times throughout the day, they may experience moderate to severe discomfort. Conventional floors, carpets and mats typically lack adequate support or additional padding to protect the knees of individuals and to relieve pressure. Thus, there is a defined need for a product that provides comfort to individuals when kneeling for prayer.
In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of mats now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a padded prayer mat wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when the user kneels upon a mat for prayer.
The present system comprises an elongated mat. The elongated mat has a first end disposed oppositely a second end. A first fastener is disposed on the first end of the elongated mat. A second fastener is disposed on the second end of the elongated mat. The first fastener and the second fastener are configured to hold the padded prayer mat in a folded configuration when the first fastener and the second fastener are engaged. A plurality of pockets is disposed on a top surface of the elongated mat. A plurality of pads is disposed in a plurality of internal cavities defined by the plurality of pockets.
Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.
Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the padded prayer mat. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

A first fastener 14 is disposed on the first end 12 of the elongated mat 11. A second fastener 15 is disposed on the second end 13 of the elongated mat 11. The first fastener 14 and the second fastener 15 are configured to hold the padded prayer mat 10 in a folded configuration when engaged together. In one embodiment, the first fastener 14 and the second fastener 15 define a hook and loop fastener. However, in other embodiments, any type of fastener, such as a snap clasp fastener or a magnetic fastener, may be used.
A plurality of pockets 16 are disposed on the elongated mat 11. Each pocket of the plurality of pockets 16 defines an interior cavity therein. Each interior cavity is dimensioned to receive a pad of a plurality of pads. The number of pockets of the plurality of pockets 16 is equal to the number of pads of the plurality of pads. In the illustrated embodiment, the plurality of pockets 16 are disposed at a portion of the elongated mat 11 corresponding to a pair of knees of a user. As such, padding material or other padding items placed in the plurality of pockets will provide comfort to the knees of the user. In another embodiment, a length on a first side of the plurality of pockets 16 is less than a length on a second side of the plurality of pockets 16, as such the elongated mat is rectangular and provides sufficient room for the user to pray, genuflect or otherwise utilize the mat. In yet another embodiment, the plurality of pockets 16 are centrally disposed on the elongated mat 11, such that the user will have ample room on each side of the plurality of pockets 16.

In an alternate embodiment, a handle 18 is disposed on at least one of the first end 12 of the elongated mat 11 and the second end 13 of the elongated mat. In the illustrated embodiment, each of the first end 12 of the elongated mat and the second end 13 of the elongated mat 11 comprise a handle 18, such that each end is manipulatable via the corresponding handle 18. The handle 18 further provides convenience to the user when placing the padded prayer mat into a folded configuration (as illustrated in
In some embodiments, an indicium is disposed on a top surface of the elongated mat. The indicium may be of any suitable orientation or design such as desired by the user. For example, the indicium may comprise a religious symbol, such as to notify other individuals of the nature of the padded prayer mat or to enhance the user's use of the padded prayer mat.

In the illustrated embodiment, the padded prayer mat comprises a non-slip surface 22 disposed on a bottom surface of the elongated mat 11. As such, use of the padded prayer mat is enhanced when placed upon a smooth or slippery surface. The non-slip surface 22 is defined by any material having a frictional coefficient greater than one. In one embodiment, the non-slip surface 22 is a rubberized material.
It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in various embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
