- 10. The roller cover of claim 9 wherein the non-rigid material is compressible.
- 11. A method for manufacturing a roller cover, the method comprising:
providing a paint-carrying medium having a backing; treating the backing to an adhering state; and applying the backing to a core while the backing is in the adhering state.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the backing has an exposed surface including a thermoplastic material and wherein the step of treating the backing to an adhering state includes heating the exposed surface of the backing to a temperature above a melting point of the thermoplastic material.
- 13. The method of claim 11 wherein the step of treating the backing to an adhering state includes depositing an adhesive on the backing.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the step of depositing an adhesive includes depositing an adhesive selected from the group including at least one of the following: a thermoplastic adhesive, a thermoset adhesive and a non-thermoplastic/non-thermoset adhesive.
- 15. The method of claim 11 wherein the backing comprises a foam material.
- 16. The method of claim 11 wherein the backing comprises a solid layer of material.
- 17. A method for forming a roller cover, the method comprising:
providing a paint-carrying medium having a backing including opposite edges; positioning the opposite edges adjacent one another; and securing the opposite edges to one another.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein the backing includes a thermoplastic material and wherein the step of securing the opposite edges to one another includes fusing the opposite edges to one another.
- 19. The method of claim 17 wherein the step of securing the opposite edges to one another includes depositing an adhesive between the opposite edges.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein the adhesive is selected from the group including at least one of the following: a thermoplastic adhesive, a thermoset adhesive and a non-thermoplastic/non-thermoset adhesive.
- 21. A roller cover including a fabric strip having a liquid carrying and releasing medium secured to a backing, wherein the strip has first and second opposite edges, wherein the strip is wound about an axis such that the backing is substantially circumferential and wherein the first and second edges are secured to one another.
- 22. The roller cover of claim 21 wherein the first and second edges are fused to one another.
- 23. The roller cover of claim 21 wherein the first and second edge surfaces are adhesively bonded to one another.
- 24. The method of claim 23 wherein the first and second opposite edge surfaces are adhesively bonded to one another by an adhesive including at least one of the following: a thermoplastic adhesive, a thermoset adhesive and a non-thermoplastic/non-thermoset adhesive.
- 25. A roller cover comprising:
a paint-carrying medium; and a core supporting the paint-carrying medium, the core including a plurality of layers, at least two of the plurality of layers having different characteristics with respect to at least one of resiliency, coefficient of friction or gripping, rigidity, solvent resistance, color, bondability, fusion characteristics such as melt point, curing characteristics, thermal conductivity, and liquid barrier characteristics.
- 26. A roller cover comprising:
a paint-carrying medium; and a core supporting the paint-carrying medium, the core including:
an inner layer having a first stiffness per unit value; an outer layer having a second stiffness per unit value equal to or different than the first stiffness per unit value; and an intermediate layer between the inner layer and the outer layer, the intermediate layer having a third stiffness per unit value greater than the first and second stiffness per unit values.
- 27. The roller cover of claim 26 wherein the intermediate layer is encapsulated between the inner and outer layers.
- 28. The roller cover of claim 26 wherein the outer layer includes a thermoplastic material.
