Claims
- 1. A composition useful as a paint remover, comprising: an organic carbonate, an alcohol, an activator, hydrogen peroxide, and water, wherein the activator is an alkyl-substituted cycloalkane, a soy oil, an alkyl soyate, or combination thereof.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the organic carbonate is propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate, or combination thereof.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein the activator is an alkyl-substituted cycloalkane.
- 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition contains from about 10 to about 90 percent by weight of the organic carbonate, from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight of the alcohol, from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight of the activator, from about 0.1 to about 20 percent by weight of the hydrogen peroxide, and from about 0.1 to about 30 percent of the water.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 further comprising an organic cosolvent.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 further comprising a thickener.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 further comprising a polyvinyl pyrrolidone thickener.
- 8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount in the range from about 3 to about 8 percent by weight.
- 9. The composition of claim 1 wherein the alcohol is benzyl alcohol.
- 10. The composition of claim 1 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount of at least about 4 percent by weight.
- 11. The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition is in the form of a miscible solution.
- 12. The composition of claim 1 wherein the alkyl-substituted cycloalkane is methylcyclopentane, cycloheptane, 1,1-dimethylcyclopentane, 1,2-dimethylcyclopentane, 1,3-dimethylcyclopentane, ethylcyclopentane, n-propylcyclopentane, methylcyclohexane, 1,1-dimethylcyclohexane, 1,2-dimethylcyclohexane, 1,3-dimethylcyclohexane, ethylcyclohexane, cyclooctane, or a mixture thereof.
- 13. A composition useful as a paint remover, comprising: an organic carbonate, an alcohol, a soy oil, hydrogen peroxide, and water.
- 14. The composition of claim 13, wherein the organic carbonate is propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate, or combination thereof.
- 15. The composition of claim 13, further comprising an alkyl-substituted cycloalkane, an alkyl soyate, or combination thereof.
- 16. The composition of claim 13, further comprising an alkyl-substituted cycloalkane.
- 17. The composition of claim 16, wherein the alkyl-substituted cycloalkane is methylcyclopentane, cycloheptane, 1,1-dimethylcyclopentane, 1,2-dimethylcyclopentane, 1,3-dimethylcyclopentane, ethylcyclopentane, n-propylcyclopentane, methylcyclohexane, 1,1-dimethylcyclohexane, 1,2-dimethylcyclohexane, 1,3-dimethylcyclohexane, ethylcyclohexane, cyclooctane, or a mixture thereof.
- 18. The composition of claim 13, further comprising an alkyl soyate.
- 19. The composition of claim 13, wherein the composition contains from about 10 to about 90 percent by weight of the organic carbonate, from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight of the alcohol, from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight of the soy oil, from about 0.1 to about 20 percent by weight of the hydrogen peroxide, and from about 0.1 to about 30 percent of the water.
- 20. The composition of claim 13 further comprising an organic cosolvent.
- 21. The composition of claim 13 further comprising a thickener.
- 22. The composition of claim 13 further comprising a polyvinyl pyrrolidone thickener.
- 23. The composition of claim 13 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount in the range from about 3 to about 8 percent by weight.
- 24. The composition of claim 13 wherein the alcohol is benzyl alcohol.
- 25. The composition of claim 13 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount of at least about 4 percent by weight.
- 26. The composition of claim 13 wherein the composition is in the form of a miscible solution.
- 27. A composition useful as a paint remover, comprising: an organic carbonate, an alcohol, an alkyl soyate, hydrogen peroxide, and water.
- 28. The composition of claim 27, wherein the organic carbonate is propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate, or combination thereof.
- 29. The composition of claim 27, further comprising an alkyl-substituted cycloalkane, a soy oil, or combination thereof.
- 30. The composition of claim 27, further comprising an alkyl-substituted cycloalkane.
- 31. The composition of claim 30 wherein the alkyl-substituted cycloalkane is methylcyclopentane, cycloheptane, 1,1-dimethylcyclopentane, 1,2-dimethylcyclopentane, 1,3-dimethylcyclopentane, ethylcyclopentane, n-propylcyclopentane, methylcyclohexane, 1,1-dimethylcyclohexane, 1,2-dimethylcyclohexane, 1,3-dimethylcyclohexane, ethylcyclohexane, cyclooctane, or a mixture thereof.
- 32. The composition of claim 27, further comprising a soy oil.
- 33. The composition of claim 27, wherein the composition contains from about 10 to about 90 percent by weight of the organic carbonate, from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight of the alcohol, from about 0.1 to about 50 percent by weight of the alkyl soyate, from about 0.1 to about 20 percent by weight of the hydrogen peroxide, and from about 0.1 to about 30 percent of the water.
- 34. The composition of claim 27 further comprising an organic cosolvent.
- 35. The composition of claim 27 further comprising a thickener.
- 36. The composition of claim 27 further comprising a polyvinyl pyrrolidone thickener.
- 37. The composition of claim 27 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount in the range from about 3 to about 8 percent by weight.
- 38. The composition of claim 27 wherein the alcohol is benzyl alcohol.
- 39. The composition of claim 27 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount of at least about 4 percent by weight.
