The present disclosure is directed to gloves. More specifically, this disclosure is directed to a safety feature for a glove.
Gloves are a covering for the hand worn for various purposes. While designed for covering the hand, gloves may also cover some or more portions of the wrist. Gloves come in many shapes and sizes. Gloves sometimes referred to as fingered gloves may be provided with separate sections for fingers and a thumb for each finger and the thumb. Gloves sometimes referred to as fingerless gloves may cover the palm of the hand but leave the fingers and thumb uncovered. Gloves referred to as mittens may be provided with one section for the fingers and another section for the thumb.
Gloves may protect the hand against cold or dirt. Gloves may serve as protective equipment to protect the hand and/or fingers during work projects. They typically cover and protect the hands from the wrist to the fingers. Fingerless gloves may be worn by motorcyclists to better grip the handlebars, as well as by skateboarders and rollerbladers, to protect the palms of the hands and add grip in the event of a fall.
Gloves may be adapted for a wide variety of uses. For example, the uses may be commercial and industrial. For example, the commercial and industrial uses may be: disposable nitrile rubber gloves; aircrew gloves; anti-vibration gloves; barbed wire handler's gloves; disposable latex gloves; chainmail gloves used by butchers, woodcutters and police; chainsaw safety gloves; cotton knitted gloves used in automotive workshops, building maintenance, logistic material movement; cut-resistant gloves; disposable gloves used by anyone from doctors examining patients to caregivers changing diapers; fireman's gauntlets; food service gloves; gardening gloves; impact gloves often used in the oil and gas industry; impact protection gloves; medical gloves; military gloves; rubber gloves; sandblasting gloves; welder's gloves, and so on.
Gloves may be adapted for a wide variety of sports and recreational uses. For example, dry scuba gloves; racing drivers gloves; three finger army shooting gloves; American football various position gloves; archer's glove; baseball glove or catcher's mitt; billiards glove; boxing gloves; cricket gloves; cycling gloves; driving gloves intended to improve the grip on the steering wheel; Eton Fives glove; Falconry glove; fencing glove; football glove; soccer glove; gardening glove; golf glove; ice hockey glove; gym gloves; riding gloves; racquetball gloves; lacrosse gloves; Kendo Kote gloves; LED gloves; motorcycling gloves; oven gloves or mitts used when cooking; paintball glove; racing drivers gloves with long cuffs, intended for protection against heat and flame for drivers in automobile competitions; and so on.
Any of these activities may cause a user to perspire. A user may also perspire if the glove is being used in heated conditions. Moreover, the user may become wet if the glove is being used in connection with a water activity. In addition, the activity or circumstances in which the glove is being used may also create dirt, debris, soil, grass, mud, stain, sawdust, metal dust, and so on.
When any of these occur, there is a need for a user to access a cleaning cloth to wipe himself or herself or the surrounding area of the perspiration, water, dirt, debris, soil, grass, mud, stain, sawdust, metal dust, and so on. Conventionally, accessing a cleaning cloth may not be easy. The cleaning cloth may be located on the clothing of the user, such as a handkerchief in a pant pocket or tied to the body of the user such as to the thigh or arm. Locating the cleaning cloth in these places may not be safe. For example, it may not be safe for an operator of a chain saw to have a cleaning cloth hanging from his or her arm since it may get in the way of the operation of the chainsaw and cause danger. Accessing the cleaning cloth may also require the user to remove the gloves which takes time and interferes with the efficient operation of the activity. For example, the user may need to remove the gloves to access a cleaning cloth located in a pant pocket.
Furthermore, in the era of the Covid pandemic and beyond, most activities carry an element of social distancing as part of a good practice to avoid contagion carried by others. If the cleaning cloth is not located on the user but somewhere in an area adjacent the activity, there is the heightened possibility that such cleaning cloths may be contaminated due to contact by other persons.
There is a need for a user of a glove to have cleaning cloths available more easily, with less interruption of the activity engaged in by the user, with less likelihood of the cloths be contaminated due to contact by other persons, and so on. This disclosure addresses that need.
Unless otherwise indicated herein, the materials described in this section are not prior art to the claims in this application and are not admitted to be prior art by inclusion in this section.

The panel 260 depicted in
In
In still other embodiments, the attachment of the panel 260 to the glove body 220 may be by snaps or by zipper. Each of snaps or zipper may be configured on the panel 260 and the glove body 220 similar to the configuration of both panel 260 and glove body 220 with hook and loop fasteners. For example, a snap fastener (also referred to as press stud, popper, snap or tich) may be a pair of interlocking discs, made out of a metal or plastic. A circular lip under one disc attached to either panel 260 or glove body 220 fits into a groove on the top of the other disc attached to the glove body 220 or panel 260. This holds them fast until a certain amount of force is applied. Different types of snaps may be attached to a panel 260 or glove body 220 made of fabric or leather for example by riveting with a punch and die set specific to the type of rivet snaps used (for example, striking the punch with a hammer to splay the tail), sewing, or plying with special snap pliers.
For a zipper attachment a zipper may be used. The zipper may be a substrate like fabric supporting each of two flexible strips of metal or plastic with interlocking projections closed or opened by pulling a slide along them. The zipper may be adapted to the panel 260 and the glove body 220 such that the fabric supporting one of the two flexible strips of the zipper is attached to the glove body 220 and the other of the two flexible strips of the zipper is attached to the panel 260. For example, the fabric supporting one of the two flexible strips of the zipper may be sewn to the glove body 220 and the other of the two flexible strips of the zipper may be sewn to the panel 260. A single zipper may run along any one or more sides of the panel 260. More than one zipper may be used. For example, one zipper may run along one side 271 of the panel 260, another zipper may run along backside 273 of the panel 260, and a third zipper may run along other side 275 of the panel 260. In an alternative embodiment, a zipper may be used along one or more but not all sides of the panel 260 with the unzipped side of the panel attached by hook and loop fasteners, stitching, snaps, and so on. Pulling the slide of the zipper in one direction may interlock the opposing projections supported by the opposing substrates and pulling the slide in the other direction may unlock the opposing projections. The zipper may be configured on the panel 260 and the glove body 220 similar to the configuration of both panel 260 and glove body 220 with hook and loop fasteners. Opening and closing the zipper may allow for attachment or release of the panel 260 from the glove body 220.
As noted, the panel 260 may be fixedly attached to the glove body 220 such as by the use of stitching of the edges of the panel 260 to the glove body 220 as previously explained. As also noted, the panel 260 may be removably attached to the glove body 220 such as by the use of hook and loop fasteners as previously explained. Alternate configurations are also disclosed such as fixedly attaching one side or portion of the panel 260 and removably attaching another side of the panel 260 as explained in
In an alternative embodiment, by removably attaching the panel to the glove body 220, such as by hook and loop fastener, the removably attached panel becomes easily removable from the glove body 220. Once removed, or partially removed as explained below, the removed panel 260 may open up more space for the cleaning cloth 290 to be easily disposed against or with respect to the glove body 220. The panel 260 may be configurable to create opening 286 of pocket 285 of different sizes by different alignments of the hook and fasteners to each other. For example, the hook or loop or both hook and loop fasteners may have a width across the glove body 220 that is greater than what may be needed to secure the panel 260 to the glove body 220. The hook and loop fasteners may be attached to each other at different points along the width to adjust the size of the opening 286 of the pocket 285. Take for example a hook and loop fastener where the hook fastener is secured to the glove body 220, the loop fastener is secured to the panel 260, and the width of the hook fastener is wider than the width of the loop fastener. In this example, attaching the opposing outwardly extending edge portions of the loop fastener against the opposing inwardly extending edge portion of the hook fastener may create a fold in the panel 260 that provides a pocket 285 with a larger opening 286 for receiving a larger cleaning cloth 290. On the other hand, attaching the opposing outwardly extending edge portions of the loop fastener against the opposing outwardly extending edge portions of the hook fastener may create a fold in the panel 260 that provides a pocket 285 with a smaller opening 286 for receiving a smaller cleaning cloth 290 or providing the cleaning cloth with a tighter fit. In addition, to allow for opening 286 of even larger dimensions a more flexible material like latex rubber may be used for panel 260 to allow the pocket to flex outwardly to create a larger opening for accommodating a larger cleaning cloth 290. Once the cleaning cloth 290 is properly disposed against or with respect to the glove body 220, the removed panel 260 may be removably attached to the glove body 220 as previously explained to hold the cleaning cloth 290 to the glove. The trade-off to removably attaching the panel is that if the panel 260 is completely removable from the glove body 220, the panel 260 may become separated from the glove body 220. To compensate, a removably attachable panel 260 may be tethered to the glove body 2204 as explained in
As the term “cleaning cloth” is used in this disclosure, the term “cleaning cloth 290 means any pliable material useable for cleaning. The cleaning cloth may be made usually by weaving, felting, or knitting natural or synthetic fibers and filaments. The cleaning cloth may be a rough square cloth made from fibers such as cotton (including organic cotton), ramie, silk, esparto fibers, synthetic blends, cotton blends and polyester and microfiber. The cleaning cloth may be a cloth, may be a cotton fabric, may be a course, spongy, soft or other texture. The cleaning cloth may be a wet wipe such as made of nonwoven fabric. These wipes may be sufficiently durable and soft and may be packaged to retain moisture, allowing clean surfaces without using water. The cleaning cloth may be a microfiber towel such as made of engineered fiber woven microfiber. The cleaning cloth may be a polishing cloth such as a soft fabric. These and any other material useable to wipe up perspiration, wetness, dirt, debris, soil, grass, mud, stain, sawdust, metal dust, and so on may be used for cleaning cloth 290.
In an illustrative example, a side of the panel 260 facing the glove body 220 may form one opposing sidewall and a side of the glove body 220 facing the panel 260 may form another opposing sidewall of the pocket 285. The space between the opposing sidewalls may define opening 286 of the pocket 285. The opening 286 is the configuration for receiving the removably insertable cleaning cloth. In an alternative embodiment, the panel 260 may be provided with a fold that includes opposing sidewalls. The space between the opposing sidewalls may define an opening 286 of the pocket 285. The opening may be the configuration for receiving the removably insertable cleaning cloth.
