Claims
- 1. A fluid valve array system for directing fluid against objects, the fluid valve array system comprising
- an object positioning system for determining position of an object, and
- a plurality of valves for directing fluid against objects, with each valve further comprising
- a valve chamber supporting fluid flow, the valve chamber having an inlet and at least one outlet,
- a shell positionable to at least partially block the at least one outlet,
- a catch mechanism for controllably latching the shell to at least partially block the at least one outlet, with the catch mechanism having a disabled state for releasing the shell to move with respect to the at least one outlet and an activated state holding the shell fixed with respect to the at least one outlet, and
- a vane projectible into fluid flow, the vane attached to the shell to induce movement of the shell with respect to the at least one outlet in response to fluid flow when the catch mechanism is in its disabled state.
- 2. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, wherein the shell and the vane in each valve of the plurality of valves together comprise a flap element having a first and a second end, with the first end attached to a flap support and the second end extending at least partially through the valve chamber, the flap element being movable to alternatively block the first outlet and the second outlet.
- 3. The fluid valve array system of claim 2, wherein each valve of the plurality of valves further comprises opposing first and a second catch mechanisms for controllably latching the flap element to block respectively the first outlet and the second outlet, with the first and second catch mechanisms having a disabled state for releasing the flap element and an activated state holding the flap element.
- 4. The fluid valve array system of claim 2, wherein each valve of the plurality of valves further comprises an impulse mechanism for kicking the flap element into the valve chamber away from one of the first and second catch mechanisms after one of the first and second catch mechanisms is controllably brought into the disabled state, allowing fluid flow to bring the flap element into catchment range of one of the first and second catch mechanisms in its activated state.
- 5. The fluid valve array system of claim 2, wherein the first catch mechanism further comprises a first electrostatic plate separated from the flap element by a first dielectric, and an electric charging unit connected to at least one of the flap element and the first electrostatic plate to apply a voltage differential for electrostatically attracting and holding the flap element to block the first outlet in the activated state.
- 6. The fluid valve array system of claim 2, wherein the first catch mechanism further comprises a first electromagnet attached to one of the valve chamber and the flap element to electromagnetically hold the flap element to block the first outlet in the activated state.
- 7. The valve of claim 1, wherein the vane is fixed to permanently extend into fluid flow.
- 8. The fluid valve array system of claim 2, further comprising a matching flap to oscillate with respect to the flap element, with fluid flow through the at least one outlet ceasing when the matching flap substantially meets flap element, and fluid flow through the at least one outlet resuming when the matching flap substantially moves away from the flap element.
- 9. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, wherein the object positioned by the object positioning system is flexible.
- 10. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, wherein the object positioned by the object positioning system is paper.
- 11. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, wherein the paper trajectory is controllable by operation of the plurality of valves.
- 12. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, wherein fluid directed against objects is air.
- 13. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, further comprising a marking reservoir having marking agents, and wherein fluid directed against objects contains marking agents.
- 14. The fluid valve array system of claim 13, wherein the marking agents are liquid droplets.
- 15. The fluid valve array system of claim 13, wherein the marking agents are solid particles.
- 16. A fluid valve array system for directing fluid against objects, the fluid valve array system comprising
- an object positioning system for determining position of an object,
- a marking reservoir having marking agents, and
- a plurality of valves for directing fluid against objects, with each valve further comprising
- a valve chamber supporting fluid flow, the valve chamber having an inlet and at least one outlet through which fluid and marking agents can pass,
- a shell positionable to at least partially block the at least one outlet,
- a catch mechanism for controllably latching the shell to at least partially block the at least one outlet, with the catch mechanism having a disabled state for releasing the shell to move with respect to the at least one outlet and an activated state holding the shell fixed with respect to the at least one outlet, and
- a vane projectible into fluid flow, the vane attached to the shell to induce movement of the shell with respect to the at least one outlet in response to fluid flow when the catch mechanism is in its disabled state.
- 17. The valve of claim 16, wherein the vane is fixed to permanently extend into fluid flow.
- 18. The fluid valve array system of claim 1, wherein the shell and the vane in each valve of the plurality of valves together comprise a flap element having a first and a second end, with the first end attached to a flap support and the second end extending at least partially through the valve chamber, the flap element being movable to alternatively block the first outlet and the second outlet.
- 19. The fluid valve array system of claim 18, further comprising a matching flap to oscillate with respect to the flap element, with fluid flow through the at least one outlet ceasing when the matching flap substantially meets flap element, and fluid flow through the at least one outlet resuming when the matching flap substantially moves away from the flap element.
- 20. A fluid valve array system for directing fluid against objects, the fluid valve array system comprising
- an object positioning system for determining position of an object, and
- a plurality of valves for directing fluid against objects, with each valve further comprising
- a valve chamber supporting fluid flow, the valve chamber having an inlet and at least one outlet,
- a shell positionable to at least partially block the at least one outlet,
- an electrically activated catch mechanism for controllably latching the shell to at least partially block the at least one of the plurality of outlets, with the electrically activated catch mechanism having a disabled state for releasing the shell to move with respect to the at least one of the plurality of outlets and an activated state holding the shell fixed with respect to the at least one of the plurality of outlets, and
- a vane projectible into fluid flow in response to electrical activation, the vane being attached to the shell to induce movement of the shell with respect to the at least one outlet in response to fluid flow when the catch mechanism is in its disabled state and the vane is activated to project into fluid flow.
