Claims
- 1. A method of making an embossed paper web of randomized cellulosic fibers comprising:
- providing a paper web of randomized cellulosic fibers; and
- contacting said web with embossing elements;
- wherein said embossing elements create infundibulate bosses at different heights, arranged in striae to form an array of islands of heavy bosses on a field of light bosses,
- wherein said light bosses are at least 0.002" less in height than the heavy bosses.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the web is nipped between embossing elements on opposed surfaces; wherein the elements on one of said opposed surfaces are arranged to float in the center of the space between the corresponding elements on the other of said opposed surface; and wherein the pattern of elements on the opposed surfaces are in substantial alignment.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the web is nipped between embossing elements on opposed surfaces; wherein the elements on one of said opposed surfaces are arranged to float in the center of the space between the corresponding elements on the other of said opposed surfaces; and wherein the pattern of elements on the opposed surfaces are offset from one another by a distance approximately equal to half the length of one of said embossing elements.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the web is nipped between embossing elements on opposed surfaces: wherein the elements on one of said opposed surfaces are arranged to contact the elements on the other of said opposed surfaces along one side; and wherein the pattern of elements on the opposed surfaces are in substantial alignment.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the web is nipped between embossing elements on opposed surfaces; wherein the elements on one of said opposed surfaces are arranged to contact the elements on the other of said opposed surfaces along one side; and wherein the pattern of elements on the opposed surfaces are offset from one another by a distance approximately equal to half the length of one of said embossing element.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising, perforating the light bosses to form slits which extend through less than a major portion of the crown of the boss.
- 7. A method of making an embossed paper web of randomized cellulosic fibers comprising:
- providing a paper web of randomized cellulosic fibers;
- contacting said web with embossing elements,
- wherein said embossing elements create infundibulate bosses at different heights, arranged in striae to form an array of islands of heavy bosses on a field of light bosses,
- wherein said light bosses are at least 0.002" less in height than said heavy bosses; and
- perforating the heavy bosses to form slits which extend for substantially the length of the crown of the boss.
- 8. A method of making an embossed paper web of randomized cellulosic fibers comprising:
- providing a paper web of randomized cellulosic fibers; and
- contacting said web with embossing elements;
- wherein said embossing elements created infundibulate bosses at different heights, arranged in striae to form an array of islands of heavy bosses on a field of light bosses,
- wherein said light bosses are at least 0.002" less in height than the heavy bosses, and
- wherein said heavy bosses are perforate, and if said light bosses are perforated, the perforations in said heavy bosses are longer than the perforations in said light bosses.
