Claims
- 1. A papermakers fabric comprising:
- a uniform fabric body made of interwoven yarns, said fabric body having a selected length and opposing ends;
- a first selectively configured plastic molded seam component molded onto one end of said fabric body such that plastic encases portions of the fabric body yarns to provide a physical locking of the seam component onto the interwoven yarns;
- a second selectively configured plastic molded seam component molded onto the opposite end of said fabric body such that plastic encases portions of the fabric body yarns to provide a physical locking of the seam component onto the interwoven yarns; and
- said first and second plastic molded seam components configured for locking making engagement with each other to form a seam which renders the fabric endless wherein the body of the papermaking fabric has a selected caliper and the seam defined by the mating engagement of said first and second seam components has a caliper substantially equal to the caliper of the body of the fabric.
- 2. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein said first seam component is configured as a male member and said second molded seam component is configured as a female member.
- 3. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein said first and second seam components include means for positive locking engagement with each other when mated.
- 4. A papermakers fabric according to claim 3 wherein said first seam component includes a male member having at least one selectively configured shoulder and said second seam component includes a female member having at least one selectively configured internal protrusion such that said male member shoulder and said female member internal protrusion comprise said positive locking means.
- 5. A papermakers fabric according to claim 4 wherein said second seam component includes a male member having at least one selectively configured shoulder and said first seam component includes a female member having at least one selectively configured internal protrusion such that said male member shoulder and said female member internal protrusion comprise said positive locking means.
- 6. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein said first and second seam components were formed in a plurality of sections across the width of the respective fabric ends.
- 7. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein the body of the papermakers fabric has a selected permeability and wherein said seam defined by the mating engaging meant of said first and second seam components has a permeability substantially equal to the permeability of the body of the fabric.
- 8. A papermakers fabric according to claim 7 wherein said first and second seam components include a selected array of apertures therethrough for defining the permeability of the seam.
- 9. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein the body of the papermakers fabric is comprised of machine direction yarns and cross machine direction yarns interwoven in a selected weave pattern.
- 10. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein said first and second seam components are nylon having a tensile strength of about 11,000 PSI.
- 11. A papermakers fabric according to claim 1 wherein, when said first and second seam components are matingly locking engaged with each other, the seam has a machine direction strength at least 200 pounds per linear inch.
