Claims
- 1. A method for preparation of a starch ether derivative as represented by formula (I) ##STR12## in which the degree of substitution of the ether bond is from 0.01 to 0.1, wherein a quaternary ammonium sulfamate of formula (II) ##STR13## is reacted with a starch in a molar amount larger than the molar amount of the substituted ether bond of said starch derivative having the degree of substitution of from 0.01 to 0.1 but smaller than 10 times said molar amount of the substituted ether bond.
- 2. A method for preparation as claimed in claim 1, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 in the said formulae (I) and (II) are all methyl groups and Q in the said formula (II) is 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl group.
- 3. A method for preparation of a starch ether derivative as represented by formula (I) ##STR14## in which the degree of substitution of the ether bond is from 0.01 to 0.1, wherein a quaternary ammonium sulfamate of formula (II) ##STR15## is reacted with a starch in a molar amount larger than the molar amount of the substituted ether bond of said starch derivative having the degree of substitution of from 0.01 to 0.1 but smaller than 10 times of said molar amount of the substituted ether bond, in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide in an amount of from 0.1 to 10 times of the molar amount of said quaternary ammonium sulfamate and water or a mixed solvent comprising water and a water-soluble organic solvent in an amount of from 0.1 to 20 times the weight of said starch, at a temperature of from room temperature to 100.degree. C.
- 4. A method for preparation as claimed in claim 3, wherein the alkali metal hydroxide is sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
- 5. A method for preparation as claimed in claim 3, wherein the mixed solvent is a mixture comprising one part by weight of ethanol, isopropanol or a mixture thereof and from 0.01 to 100 parts by weight of water.
- 6. A starch ether derivative of a general formula (I): ##STR16## where St--O represents a starch molecule residue, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms or a benzyl group, provided that two or more of these R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 must not be a benzyl group or an alkyl group having from 5 to 18 carbon atoms at the same time, and any two of these R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 may be bonded to from a cyclic structure, said derivative containing the ether bond as represented by said formula.
- 7. A starch ether derivative as claimed in claim 6, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 in the formula (I) all are methyl groups.
- 8. A starch ether derivative as claimed in claim 6, which contains the ether bond as represented by the said formula (I) in a degree of substitution of from 0.01 to 0.1.
