Claims
- 1. An apparatus for preparing a parallel device interface signal for transmission across a medium comprising:
a modulation circuit qualifying the parallel device interface signal for further processing in preparation for transmission across the medium; a summing junction responsive to the modulation circuit accumulating the qualified parallel device interface signal; and a serial port connector communicating with the summing junction transmitting the accumulated qualified parallel device interface signal over the medium.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a demodulation circuit communicating with the serial port connector demodulating a multi-frequency parallel device interface signal received from the medium.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2, in which the parallel device interface signal is a plurality of parallel device interface signals, and further comprising a mixer communicating with the summing junction combining the accumulated plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals to form a multi-frequency signal for a simultaneous transmission of the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals by the serial port connector.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, in which the modulation circuit, the summing junction, the demodulation circuit, the mixer and the serial port connector comprise a parallel interface modem.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4, in which the parallel interface modem is a portion of a parallel device controller.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, in which the parallel device controller is a small computer systems interface controller.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 5, in which the parallel device controller is an advanced technology attachment controller.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 4, in which the parallel interface modem further comprises a parallel interface connector.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, in which the parallel interface connector is a small computer systems interface connector.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 8, in which the parallel interface connector is an advanced technology attachment connector.
- 11. A method for translating a plurality of parallel device interface signals for communication by a medium by steps comprising:
engaging a modulation circuit in response to receipt of the plurality of parallel device interface signals; qualifying each of the plurality of parallel device interface signals; activating a summing junction responsive to the modulation circuit for collecting the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals; initiating a mixer communicating with the summing junction for combining the plurality of parallel device interface signals to form a multi-frequency signal for transmission across the medium; and transferring the multi-frequency signal to a serial port connector for simultaneous transmission of the plurality of modulated parallel device interface signals across the medium.
- 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
receiving a multi-frequency modulated parallel device interface signal from the medium through the serial port connector; transferring the multi-frequency modulated parallel device interface signal to a demodulation circuit communicating with the serial port connector; and demodulating the multi-frequency modulated parallel device interface signal into individual signals, wherein each individual signal is a particular interface signal of predetermined characteristics.
- 13. The method of claim 12, in which the frequency specific modulation circuit, the summing junction, the frequency specific demodulation circuit, the mixer and the serial port connector comprise a parallel interface modem.
- 14. The method of claim 12, in which the parallel device interface signal is a small computer systems interface signal.
- 15. The method of claim 12, in which the parallel device interface signal is an advanced technology attachment interface signal.
- 16. The method of claim 12, in which the modulated parallel device interface signal is a small computer systems interface signal.
- 17. The method of claim 12, in which the modulated parallel device interface signal is an advanced technology attachment interface signal.
- 18. A disc drive comprising:
a parallel device interface controller providing a parallel device interface signal; and a parallel interface modem preparing the parallel device interface signal for transmission across a medium by steps for preparing the parallel device interface signal for the medium.
- 19. The disc drive of claim 18, in which the parallel device interface signal is a plurality of parallel device interface signals, and in which the parallel interface modem for preparing the plurality of parallel device interface signals comprises:
a modulation circuit qualifying the parallel device interface signal for further processing in preparation for transmission across the medium; a summing junction responsive to the modulation circuit accumulating the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals; a mixer communicating with the summing junction combining the accumulated plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals to form a multi-frequency signal for a simultaneous transmission of the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals; a serial port connector communicating with the summing junction transmitting the accumulated qualified parallel device interface signal over the medium; and a demodulation circuit communicating with the serial port connector demodulating each multi-frequency parallel device interface signal received from the medium.
- 20. The disc drive of claim 18, in which the parallel device interface signal is a plurality of parallel device interface signals, and in which the plurality of parallel device interface signals are translated for the medium by steps comprising:
engaging a modulation circuit in response to receipt of the plurality of parallel device interface signals; qualifying each of the plurality of parallel device interface signals; activating a summing junction responsive to the modulation circuit for accumulating the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals; initiating a mixer communicating with the summing junction for combining the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals to form a multi-frequency output signal for transmission across the medium; transferring the multi-frequency signal to a serial port connector for simultaneous transmission of the plurality of qualified parallel device interface signals across the medium; receiving a multi-frequency modulated parallel device interface signal from the medium through the serial port connector; transferring the multi-frequency modulated parallel device interface signal to a demodulation circuit communicating with the serial port connector; and demodulating the multi-frequency modulated parallel device interface signal into individual signals, wherein each individual signal is a particular interface signal of predetermined characteristics.
