Claims
- 1. A parts washer comprising:
- means for supporting at least one part to be washed;
- means for mounting the part supporting means for movement about a first axis relative to a support therefor,
- means for delivering cleaning fluid from a pressurized supply to against a part on the part support means,
- said fluid delivering means including first and second means for directing fluid from a pressurized supply against a part of the part support means, each said first and second fluid directing means delivering cleaning fluid in a discharge direction that is transverse to the first axis; and
- means for selectively repositioning the fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means,
- said repositioning means comprising means for simultaneously moving the first and second fluid directing means through a reciprocating path of less than 360 degrees around a single second axis,
- wherein the first and second axes are transverse to each other.
- 2. The parts washer according to claim 1 including means for rotating the parts supporting means.
- 3. The parts washer according to claim 1 wherein the first and second axes are substantially perpendicular to each other.
- 4. The parts washer according to claim 1 wherein the fluid delivering means comprises a conduit with a portion of the conduit having a length, the first and second means for directing fluid comprises first and second discrete flow directing means on the conduit spaced along the length of the conduit portion and the repositioning means comprises means for moving the conduit portion around the second axis.
- 5. The parts washer according to claim 4 wherein the flow directing means comprises a plurality of nozzles on the conduit configured to direct fluid in a thin stream of fluid.
- 6. The parts washer according to claim 4 wherein the flow directing means comprises a plurality of nozzles on the conduit configured to direct fluid in a thin spray pattern, the nozzles defining an axis.
- 7. The parts washer according to claim 6 wherein the nozzles are configured such that the angle between the nozzle axis and an outer edge of the spray is at most approximately 15 degrees.
- 8. The parts washer according to claim 1 wherein the flow directing means comprises an orifice in the conduit that is configured to direct fluid from a pressurized supply in a thin stream.
- 9. The parts washer of claim 1 wherein the means for repositioning the fluid directing means about a second axis comprises an arm extending along the second axis and means for rotating the arm such that when the arm is rotated the repositioning means is rotated about the second axis.
- 10. The parts washer according to claim 1, wherein said mounting means and said repositioning means move the part supporting means and the fluid directing means asynchronously about the first and second axes.
- 11. A parts washer comprising:
- means for supporting at least one part to be washed;
- means for mounting the part supporting means for movement about a first axis relative to a support therefor,
- means for delivering cleaning fluid from a pressurized supply to against a part on the part support means,
- said fluid delivering means including first and second means for directing fluid from a pressurized supply against a part of the part support means, each said first and second fluid directing means delivering cleaning fluid in a discharge direction that is transverse to the first axis; and
- means for selectively repositioning the fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means,
- said repositioning means comprising means for simultaneously moving the first and second fluid directing means through a reciprocating path of less than 360 degrees around a single second axis,
- wherein the fluid delivering means comprises a conduit with a portion of the conduit having a length, the first and second means for directing fluid comprise first and second discrete flow directing means on the conduit spaced along the length of the conduit portion, and the repositioning means comprises means for moving the conduit portion around the second axis,
- wherein there are more than two discrete flow directing means on the conduit spaced in a line extending transversely to the length of the first axis.
- 12. A parts washer comprising:
- means for supporting at least one part to be washed;
- means for mounting the part supporting means for movement about a first axis relative to a support therefor;
- means for delivering cleaning fluid from a pressurized supply to against a part on the part supporting means,
- said fluid delivering means including first and second means for directing fluid from a pressurized supply against a part on the part supporting means each said first and second fluid directing means delivering cleaning fluid in a discharge direction that is transverse to the first axis; and
- means for selectively repositioning the fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means,
- said repositioning means comprising means for simultaneously moving the first and second fluid directing means around a single second axis and means for reciprocatively moving the fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means around the second axis;
- wherein the supporting means comprises a generally elongate cylindrical tumbler having a first and a second circular end plate and a plurality of generally flat lattice sections extending along the length of the tumbler between the first and second end plates to define a chamber for containing parts to be washed, said lattice sections including a plurality of holes therein.
- 13. The parts washer according to claim 12 wherein the fluid delivering means comprises a vertically extending tube and a plurality of elongate horizontally extending tubes fixedly connected to the vertical tube, said repositioning means causing the fluid delivering means to move in a path, said plurality of horizontal tubes being substantially parallel to the first axis with said fluid delivering means in one position within the path, wherein there are means on each of the horizontally extending tubes for directing fluid substantially perpendicular to the length of the horizontally extending tubes.
- 14. The parts washer according to claim 13 wherein the horizontally extending tubes are elongate and there are a plurality of discrete flow directing means spaced along the length of a plurality of the horizontally extending tubes.
- 15. The parts washer of claim 13 wherein the horizontal tubes comprise an upper horizontal tube having a length and a lower horizontal tube having a length.
- 16. The parts washer of claim 13 wherein the reciprocatively repositioning means comprises means for moving the horizontal tubes so that at least one of the horizontal tubes travels along the entire length of the tumbler.
- 17. The parts washer according to claim 12, wherein said mounting means and said repositioning means move the part supporting means and the fluid directing means asynchronously about the first and second axes.
- 18. A parts washer comprising:
- means for supporting at least one part to be washed;
- means for mounting the part supporting means for rotation about a first axis relative to a support therefor;
- means for delivering cleaning fluid from a pressurized supply to against a part on the part supporting means,
- said fluid delivering means including a conduit,
- said conduit comprising a vertical tube connected to a plurality of horizontal tubes parallel to the first axis and an arm:
- a plurality of nozzles on each of the horizontal tubes; and
- means for selectively repositioning the nozzles by simultaneous movement of the horizontal tube about a single second axis transverse to the first axis.
- 19. The parts washer according to claim 18 wherein the spray nozzles have a vertical axis and are configured such that the angle between the spray nozzle axis and an outer edge of the spray is at most approximately 15 degrees.
- 20. The parts washer according to claim 18 wherein the means for selectively repositioning the nozzles comprises means for reciprocatively moving the longitudinal tubes about the second axis.
- 21. The parts washer according to claim 18, wherein said mounting means and said repositioning means move the part supporting means and the horizontal tubes a synchronously about the first and second axes.
- 22. A parts washer comprising:
- means for supporting at least one part to be washed;
- means for mounting the part supporting means for movement about a first axis relative to a support therefor;
- means for delivering cleaning fluid from a pressurized supply to against a part on the part supporting means,
- said fluid delivering means including first and second means for directing fluid from a pressurized supply against a part on the part supporting means, each said first and second fluid directing means delivering cleaning fluid in a discharge direction that is transverse to the first axis; and
- means for selectively repositioning the fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means,
- said repositioning means comprising means for simultaneously moving the first and second fluid directing means around a single second axis and means for reciprocatively moving the fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means around the second axis;
- wherein the supporting means comprises a tumbler having a wall defining a chamber for containing parts to be washed and having a plurality of holes therethrough.
- 23. The parts washer according to claim 22, wherein said mounting means and said repositioning means move the part supporting means and the fluid directing means a synchronously about the first and second axes.
- 24. A parts washer comprising:
- means for supporting at least one part to be washed;
- means for mounting the part supporting means for movement about a first axis relative to a support therefor;
- means for delivering fluid from a pressurized supply to against a part on the part supporting means, the fluid delivering means including first and second
- means for directing fluid from a pressurized supply from spaced locations against a part on the part supporting means, each of the first and second fluid directing means delivering fluid in a discharge direction that is transverse to the first axis; and
- means for selectively repositioning the first fluid directing means relative to the part supporting means, the repositioning means comprising means for moving the first fluid directing means through a reciprocating path of less than 360 degrees around a single second axis,
- wherein said first and second axes are transverse to each other.
