Claims
- 1. A method of passing an array argument to a stored procedure executed by a computer, comprising the steps of:
- creating the array in a memory of the computer, wherein the array is not recognized by the stored procedure;
- passing the array to a function in the memory of the computer;
- under control of the function, generating a handle for the passed array to enable the stored procedure to recognize the array; and
- passing the handle to the stored procedure in the memory of the computer, wherein execution of the stored procedure by the computer accesses the array using the passed handle.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of transmitting the array from a program to the function.
- 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising the step of transmitting the handle from the function to the program.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of invoking the stored procedure from the program.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the step of passing the handle to the stored procedure further comprises passing the handle from the program to the stored procedure.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the array is stored as an object.
- 7. An apparatus for passing an array argument to a stored procedure executed by a computer, comprising:
- a computer having a memory;
- means, performed by the computer, for creating the array in a memory of the computer, wherein the array is not recognized by the stored procedure;
- means, performed by the computer, for passing the array to a function in the memory of the computer;
- means, performed by the computer, for, under control of the function, generating a handle for the passed array to enable the stored procedure to recognize the array; and
- means, performed by the computer, for passing the handle to the stored procedure in the memory of the computer, wherein execution of the stored procedure by the computer accesses the array using the passed handle.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising the means for transmitting the array from a program to the function.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising the means for transmitting the handle from the function to the program.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, further comprising the means for invoking the stored procedure from the program.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the means for passing the handle to the stored procedure further comprises means for passing the handle from the program to the stored procedure.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the array is stored as an object.
- 13. A program storage device, readable by a computer, tangibly embodying a program of instructions executable by the computer to perform method steps for passing an array argument to a stored procedure executed by the computer, the method comprising the steps of:
- creating the array in a memory of the computer, wherein the array is not recognized by the stored procedure;
- passing the array to a function in the memory of the computer;
- under control of the function, generating a handle for the passed array to enable the stored procedure to recognize the array; and
- passing the handle to the stored procedure in the memory of the computer, wherein execution of the stored procedure by the computer accesses the array using the passed handle.
- 14. The program storage device of claim 13, further comprising the step of transmitting the array from a program to the function.
- 15. The program storage device of claim 14, further comprising the step of transmitting the handle from the function to the program.
- 16. The program storage device of claim 15, further comprising the step of invoking the stored procedure from the program.
- 17. The program storage device of claim 16, wherein the step of passing the handle to the stored procedure further comprises passing the handle from the program to the stored procedure.
- 18. The program storage device of claim 13, wherein the array is stored as an object.
